We're currently in room 303, and this is our second day at this hotel. The room is sumptuous, bathroom is clean marble and views of the canal are amazing. All the staff are polite and helpful, and speak very good English. The location is very convenient as from the window you can almost see the central train station in Venice...

The ambiance, location and breakfast are on point. The hotel itself is just near to everything. We had a chance to explore the hotel's neighborhood and it is awesome. It is very safe and the same time convenient. However, just be aware of those folks around who are offering help to carry your bags, just say no. You can manage...

Nice comfy hotel, across the canal from the train station. We Took the bus from the airport and it was literally across one bridge. Yes is far away from Saint Mark's. But it's cheaper, we literally ate at many great restaurants from 10-12 Euros for a full set. With many cafes close by.... It's clean and small and nice to...

I highly recommend this hotel for first time tourists in Venice who's on a budget. It's less than 5 minutes walk(or more of you have really big & heavy luggage) from the Santa Lucia train station if you're coming in by train or Piazale Roma where the airport bus drops people off. From there, it's close to at least 5...

This hotel was a lovely stay! Once I booked the hotel I emailed to ask if I could get a room that faces the canal - for free, I got what I asked for! The first night we were given the room behind the breakfast room. It appears to be a little shack at the back of the hotel, but...

The highlight of this hotel was the canal view! The room itself was less shabby chic and more just shabby. Door to the bathroom had a chunk missing, mould in the shower, stains on the carpets, poor finishing all round and no hot water from the drip of a shower on the last day. Very poor value for money paid.

This a small hotel with limited amenities. We were offered a small breakfast in the morning which was more than satisfactory. I would recommend for a short stay as far as its convenience to the train station or cruise terminals. If you are there any longer it would be better to book further into central Venice or perhaps on one...

When we arrived we found Thomas cook had booked me and my mum as a couple instead of a twin room. The hotel had no twin rooms available and Thomas cook were less than helpful. We had to share a bed the first night but the lovely man on duty then gave us a free upgrade with a massive twin...

We were shown to a small hut in the garden (a barn in which I could barely stand straight) that would've been our room for an expensive €120+ a night but fortunately luckily we were able to upgrade to the room listed in the photos for €50 extra a night. So unless you like camping outdoors, really don't book the...

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighbourhood identity.
