We have just returned from 5 wonderful nights in Venice where we stayed at the Starhotels Splendid. This lovely little hotel was in a perfect location.....5 - 10 minutes walk from San Marco one way and the Rialto Bridge the other way. Check in was a little slow as the reception desk was very busy but once we were checked...

Stayed 3 nights at Starhotels Splendid Venice, was very Zen like setting. Very clean and comfortable. Beds were very nice. Bathroom was small but good. Loved the room, was decorated with clean lines. This hotel had its own Dock, so you could take a water taxi to the hotel lobby. The location is great. Everything is within walking distance. They...

This was our 7th trip to Venice, and this was the best hotel we have stayed in so far. A decent sized room, beautifully decorated and with a lovely modern bathroom. Breakfast and dinner both excellent., too. We also liked the lounges and communal areas. Don't use the address as a means of finding it though, as we did, and...

If you cant do the Dianelle and the really expensive hotels facing Grand Canal off San Marco then the Splendid gives all 4 star quality with a excellent location on a small canal between Rialto and San Marco, actually the main route between the two places and with lots of shopping!. The hotel has recently been renovated with style and...

What a great place to stay. Don't normally write reviews, but feel compelled to do so this time. Slight problem with the room to begin with, but this was dealt with promptly and with professionalism. The hotel is located in a very central and convenient area. Would recommend it to anyone.

An excellent hotel and very conveniently placed between St Marks Square and the Rialto bridge. The beautifully appointed room we had overlooked a canal and was high up. Room service was amazing. We reckoned that maids had been in at least twice during the day, put out our slippers, folded our nightwear and changed linen and towels daily. Actually I...

A group of 7 of us from Adelaide, South Australia stayed at the Starhotel Splendid from 8-11 Oct 2010 after our 12 night cruise on the Ruby Princess. We were all extremely happy with our stay and could not fault it in any way. The staff were helpful and courteous, the rooms were comfortable and very clean, breakfast was good...

This is a proper four star hotel, with good public rooms, comfortable, clean bedrooms and helpful staff. It is located a short walk from either St Marks or the Rialto bridge. Our food was fine - not top restaurant quality but quite good enough. It was a nice surprise to have sky sports too! We would certainly use this hotel...

This hotel is a definite 4+ star. Location, style, cleanliness all excellent. Water taxi access. Our room overlooked a canal. There is an abundant breakfast buffet. We were very close to St. Mark's square. Venice is still very crowded in mid-September. This hotel was a great place to rest at the end of the day.

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.

Just a short stroll or gondola ride will take you to Venice's most iconic sights: San Marco square and the Rialto Bridge. Like the city itself, our 165 rooms and suites are a mixture of styles, but all capture the essence of a romantic Venice holiday. Blending contemporary comforts with details that reflect classic Venetian character, each room has a light, elegant atmosphere, with many offering wonderful views over canals and the Venice skyline with its magnificent San Marco's bell tower in the horizon. Le Maschere at the Splendid Venice is one of the few restaurants near San Marco Square that is popular with Venetians and tourists alike.
