We arrived at the hotels private boat entrance after getting a taxi from the airport. Felt like James Bond! Stunning start to our honeymoon. We were lucky enough to not only get a room with a lagoon view but also one with a balcony (the views were stunning!). The hotel also has a terraced roof. Lovely breakfast area and a...

Hotel is well situated both when arriving with luggage (only minutes from water bus stop) and for walking to the major sites. Staff were friendly and helpful. Lots of choice at breakfast, from cereals to hot stuff. I stayed in a single room which had a lovely view of the lagoon. It had loads of storage space and a fridge,...

Last weekend I visited Venice for the 5th time, this was the 4th hotel I had stayed in. The experience was so great that I book another trip to the same hotel when I got back! Other reviews will tell you about the wonderful location minutes'walk from San Marco's, the panoramic view from the roof top terrace, or solarium, the...

Dear client, thank you so much for all the commeents about your stay. What to say : The best compliment for us is if you book again - that's what you did so your really felt at home with us. Coming from the airport by Alilaguna is easy and not as expensive as a private taxi boat. But if you...

The Hotel Gabrielli is in a perfect position not only for sight seeing (Piazza San Marco is but a five minute walk away) but also for the boat transfer from Marco Polo airport. We used the Alilugana boat transfer which cost 25 euros each for a return ticket on the blue line, which took about an hour passing and stopping...

Immediately adjacent to Arsenale vaporetto stop. Great room overlooking the lagoon. Lots of choice for breakfast. Would come back and stay again. Lovely roof terrace to enjoy in the sunshine. Friendly staff.

I cannot say enough great things about this place. The location is PERFECT. There is easy access to a boat dock which is crucial in a city like Venice. The staff was awesome, the food was good, but nothing can beat the location and price.

Stayed 4 nights in a lagoon view room which was definitely worth paying the extra for. Beautiful room with beautiful view. Excellent location approx 10 mins walk to St Marks Square. Can be a bit noisy as located right on front where all day trippers arrive and depart; however we didn't find it a problem. Lovely roof terrace to enjoy...

Was allocated dark shoebox room that overlooked dark courtyard. Could not open door to room if closet door was ajar. No safe in room. Travel companion's room was no better. In his case, the TV was mounted on a bracket above the headboard of the bed, making it impossible to view. Unconscionable for any hotel to offer such accommodation, let...

My room was beautiful, updated and quite spacious compared to other hotels I have visited in Europe. The staff was very helpful to our group to arrange transportation to the airport on our departure. One thing all of our hotels in Italy did was keep the key when you leave the hotel for dinner, sightseeing, etc. I am not sure...

Dear client, thank you for posting such a positive comment of your stay. I know that in US you have key cards which you return only on departure. We opted to keep the old fashioned keys also to keep a contact with the client. This way there is a contact with him every time he goes out of the hotel...

We got a room with two windows facing the canal...oh wow...the view is awesome! The rooftop terrace on the 5th floor is a fantastic place to take a photograph. Dear Mark, thank you for posting a review of your stay. Yes, the hotel is quite big and offers so much. The inner court yards, the garden in the back of the house, the rooftop terrrace. Your really need to discover it all. If you like to take sunset pictures - there is no better view. Thanks agian and arrividerci...

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
