Terrible hotel. Very unfriendly even rude staff .you need to walk with your luggage upstairs without elevator. Very noisy from outside but you can't close the window because it is very hot and it is no air conditioner. breakfast was fine.

Universo Nord Hotel is very near the Santa Lucia train station and Ferrovia. The breakfast provided was good. The only sad thing of this hotel is located pretty far away from San Marco and the wifi is not stable in our room.

Hotel Universo Nord is just a few minutes walk from Santa Lucia train station and Ferrovia. Located in a small busy street. This hotel is pretty old decorated but comfy. Room was clean and tiny with window but no view. Some nights were hard to sleep because of some mosquitos. Wifi only in a lobby. Breakfast were basic but nice....

I found the hotel good for the price. I had a quiet room in the back overlooking a courtyard on the ground floor. The room whilst small was very clean and everything worked. The staff were helpful and the breakfast more than adequate. The decor in the public areas was a little tired and in the bedroom. Then again I...

I was pleasantly surprised by this hotel. Very very cheap and not uncomfortable. The staff on the desk were really pleasant and even upgraded my room for free. Yes this is a very basic hotel but everything is v. clean, warm and it's in a good location. I had a back room which was quiet. I really can't see how...

The staff at the hotel were friendly and welcoming providing good tips to move about the city and overall being very helpful. The hotel is located very close to the train station and the bus terminus so whether taking the bus, taxi or train from the airport it is a good option especially if travelling on a budget. There are...

That's a good choice if you need a place close to the station and don't want to pay too much. Simple breakfast, friendly stuff, hot water in a shower.. what you need more for one/two nights? Just try to ask for a room not from the side of the main street. Hard to sleep with noises from the outside.

The hotel very close to slation, only 3 minutes walk. But NO LIFT/ELEVATOR, it is tiring since I got room at 3rd floor and I have to bring my big suitcase myself and staff not friendly. The room small but the bathroom nice, clean, towel, soap and shampoo, small tv. The good thing is LOCATION and their BREAKFAST.

Location: Wandering around in Venice is one of the best things, but it is very easy to get lost and all turned around. As far as I could tell there were only three things signposted in all of Venice - San Marco and the Rialto Bridge (both in the priciest parts of Venice) and the Ferroviaria, the train station, which...

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
