Our room was lovely; I think it had originally been a suite, as we passed through 2 other (empty except for furniture) rooms before getting to ours - Which was great, as each room had a window in it meaning we were out on a limb and it was very quiet; although it was quite a warren to get to... We stayed at the Hotel Continental for three nights whilst exploring Venice. The room was very reasonably priced and we were given a double room fronting the hotel (room 269) - the view of the canal was incredible! The breakfast was served over looking the canal and the food was lovely, a great selection. The staff were very helpful and... More

The hotel was a good value and right on the Grand canal. We chose it for the easy walk from the train station We were able to take the water taxi or walk all throughout Venice from this location. The included breakfast was fantastic, especially the cappuccino. The room was average but the bed was comfortable.

Chance would have been a fine thing if after arriving at this formal and impressive Hotel just a few minutes walk from the Train Station and right in the centre of the shops and within easy walking distance of St. Marks Square, only to be told that there was a "technical problem" with our room along with 4 other couples... We stayed here for 3 nights ( double bedroom). I was quite happy with it. Easy access and close to loads of nice places. Literally by the canal. The staff is friendly. Things to consider: We had to pay a city fee at the hotel in the end. Possibly happens in any hotel you go in venice. Breakfast was alright... More

Hotel within about 150 yards of Venice Train Station, very easy walking with our suitcases. Even more delighted that the hotel was within easy commute for the cruise terminal, once again we walked over the bridge just past the train station, paid 1 euro 50 and took the people mover (I think that was what it was called) 1 stop... Stayed at this hotel for a four night break in November 2016. Location is very good and easy to get to upon your arrival in Venice. Approximately 500 yards from the bus station and 200 yards from the rail station. Situated on the Grand Canal and next to the water taxi stop which gives access to everywhere Venice has to... More

Booked this hotel via cruise.co.uk, for a 2 night stay prior to a cruise with MSC. We had a water taxi transfer from the airport which dropped us right outside the hotel, taking approx 30 minutes. The hotel is located alongside the Grand Canal at the top end, within 5 minutes walk of the railway station. We had a standard... More

Rooms very basic and small. Old fashioned. Our shower was terrible that water went everywhere and lay on the bathroom floor constantly and one had to walk through the wet floor. Quite unpleasant. Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
