Venice-BB-Venezia is a small and comfortable b&b located on the second floor of a historic 15th century building in the very center of Venice, where you will experience an authentic Venetian lifestyle in the true spirit of bed and breakfast. Nestled in a quiet garden, Venice-BB-Venezia is located in the Cannaregio sestiere, between the Ponte delle Guglie (Spires Bridge), the famous Casino and the Ghetto vecchio (old Jewish Ghetto), a short walk to Ponte di Rialto (Rialto Bridge) and Piazza San Marco (St. Mark's Square), and in close proximity to a colourful green market. We can be easily reached from Venice's main arrival terminal: train station (Santa Lucia), bus station (Piazzale Roma) or car parking (Tronchetto), both being just a few minutes away. From the main airport (Marco Polo) you can reach us very easily by waterbus or bus. Alessandro

Neighbourhood
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.

Three things of note: 1. Location is great: 5' from train station and short walk to water taxi. 2. Breakfast an embarrassment of riches: almost too much! 3. Alessandro (proprietor) an outstanding host. He will direct you to the unseen/unknown (by tourists) spots. Ask him about bar hopping near the fish market.

This B&B was a highlight of my vacation, private and also very convenient to a main street with restaurants and shops. Alessandro offers a variety of delicious things for breakfast, and great suggestions for the day. As a native Venetian he is very knowledgeable, and also friendly and genuinely interested in his guests. The room was clean and comfy. For Americans, their 2nd floor is what we would call the 3rd floor, two flights up a wide staircase. The availability of loaner boots (and umbrellas) was very helpful. Parts of Venice are flooded at high tide this time of year, and while vendors sell knee-high plastic shoe covers, nothing beats a decent pair of boots. I highly recommend Venice-BB-Venezia and would definitely stay there again!

Alessandro was a wonderful host, giving us a brief overview of the city with tips for where to eat and advice on some of the tourist haunts we wanted to visit. I'm struggling to think of a better B&B (home cooked Ventian) breakfast in our travels, we never got through it all, despite trying our hardest! The conversation over breakfast was wonderful. We would not hesitate to stay here again when we next get a chance to visit Venice. Thanks again Alessandro. Some practical points:- (only) a good 10 minute walk from the train station, a couple of sets of stairs but not too bad, no card service so you'll need cash.

Live like a Venetian with a true Venetian host. Close to the train station but you will need to follow the instructions to find it. The host Allossandro provided us with great recommendations for restaurants that the locals use, and which water bus to catch for different destinations. The breakfast was amazing as was the host’s stories and attentiveness. Not a 5 star hotel but I give it a 5 star recommendation.

There is a parking lot just off island where car travelers park. I met many people who had driven to the island and they said it was very easy in and out.
