My boyfriend took me here in February for a surprise trip for my birthday, and I was blown away. The hotel way beautiful, with its marble floored lobby and gorgeous venetian glass chandelier, it just took my breath away. The room was great. It wasn't modern, but decorated in a more traditional Italian theme. With the king sized bed and...

We stayed three nights while on a Tour-loved the room and the service. The breakfast was plentiful and diverse. Coffee was better than Florence. The hotel is conveniently located at the start of the Grand Canal next door to the train station. The staff even went out of their way to help get tickets for the opera.

The hotel is in a brilliant location - close to bus station, train station, shops & restaurants. Initially some of the furniture looked a little worn but the room we had was very spacious and everything was very clean. The breakfast was great for a 3 day break, lots of choice. All the staff were lovely and very helpful.

Pros: location and room temperature. Literally the hotel is less than 1 mins from the Venezia station and on grand canal. The room is very warm, which was very helpful at the time we went since outside temperatures were average of 1 digit. Cons: ants. I accidentally drop a piece of banana on the floor for a few hours, when...

You get much better places to stay in Venice than this place. Very old and not properly maintained. We did not like our stay. Location is better though. Closer to the main station. Breakfast is ok. I would not recommend this hotel for the price we paid

Great hotel and great staff! Clean room, a bit small but typical European room. We were in 308, no view, but large bathroom, quiet and peaceful. The front desk lady, Maria G. Was awesome! So helpful and polite!! The buffet breakfast was large and varied. Loved it! 5 minutes, if that, from train station. Anything is near by. Water taxi,...

This hotel was right on the Grand Canal so the location was very good. You just stepped out the hotel door and you were on the Canal. The railway station was 3/4 minutes away and there were porters there if you wanted your luggage carried to your hotel. The hotel was spotless and the staff were very helpful with information...

The Hotel was selected by our Travel Agent but it was an ideal choice. The Hotel was easy to find after arriving in Venice on a water Taxi from the Airport and the staff were very friendly and welcoming. Our room was a good size and the bathroom was lovely. The breakfast provided in the restaurant is exceptional both for...

Location, breakfast, front desk, lobby area, rooftop sitting area all terrific. But our 2-night stay was marred by an enormous mold in the shower. All four corners were so mold encrusted that it was "raised" from tile surface. Out of character with the rest of bathroom, room and property at large. Had we noticed it upon check-in, would've requested re-assignment....

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
