This was my first trip to Venice, and I am so happy that I chose this hotel. It's a very well managed establishment, with the most awesome staff - knowledgeable, fun to talk to, and very professional. I extend my thanks to every one of you! I was very happy with pretty much everything - breakfast, the garden, the exceptionally...

Around the corner from the train station, this converted abbey was clean, quiet and nice with very friendly service and beautiful grounds. Breakfast was good; there is a nice outdoor area. We only stayed one night but were very happy with the choice and recommend it if you want reasonably priced hotel and don't want to trudge your bags through...

We constantly strive to make our Guests feel very welcome, and always are at their total disposal in order to help them and provide assistence for any issue that might arise during their stay; unfortunately, even though this happens in very rare cases, there can be situations where our abilities and knowledge (coming from a long-term experience) could result completely...

My wife and I stayed two nights in the Hotel Abbazia and really enjoyed our stay! The property is a former abbey and has an air of serenity about it. Though it is literally steps from the train station, it is located down an alley so nondescript you would walk right by and never notice it were you not headed...

Easy walk from the train station. Hotel is on a quiet side street, with easy access to the vaporetto or water bus, which is essentially the only way to get around except water taxi or walking. Visitors should keep in mind that there are no automobiles in Venice. This means that if you have a lot of luggage be prepared...

Check in quick and easy we arrived early but it wasn't a problem to the very efficient reception staff luggage was taken off us and placed in storage until our rooms were ready then they were taken up to our room...

I stayed in Hotel Abbazia in April for 3 nights. The hotel is a gem and the staff extremely friendly and they go out of their way to make your stay memorable. The room was very tastefully done. We were able to walk all over Venice but if you choose the water taxi is right outside on the main street....

This is a beautiful hotel near the Venice train station. This is a plus because you don't have to take an expensive water taxi or lug a ton of luggage up and down the bridges that are everywhere in Venice. It is a converted abbey and has a lot of charm. The bathroom is a challenge because there is no...

Where do I begin - I recently took my mother on a trip to Venice (her first time abroad!) - and chose to stay at this hotel based on the reviews here. What an experience! The hotel is a converted monastery - and you can really feel the history of the building the moment you step into the lobby. There...

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
