Matteo and Oliver were wonderful hosts for us and our friends. The rooms were very nice and bathrooms larger then expected. The location is centrally located and easy to access from almost anywhere in Venice. The key to loving this place though is the service. They make you feel at home as if you were long lost friends. The breakfast...

My high rating for this property is based heavily on the wonderful treatment we received from all of the staff. Add to that an ancient but beautifully maintained house overlooking the famous Rialto Bridge in the centre of old Venice. What more do you want??? The staff were all incredibly attentive, friendly and helpful, they will all be long remembered....

We have been back twice now (both special occaions - engagement and birthday) and have loved every moment of it. The staff and particularly Matteo, the owner, are fantastic - so helpful and friendly. The rooms are classic but beautiful, but the balcony is somewhere you could sit all day watching the boats go by. Well worth a visit.

Another visit to Venice, and back to our favourite hotel. The room was at the back (a "classic" room), large and very comfortable, with TV, sofa, good bathroom, and good, big bed. Breakfast was excellent-eggs as you want, pancakes etc. Coffee very good. But the best is where you eat it-on the balcony, overlooking the Grand Canal. Oh..and drinks before...

Worth every dime! Could relax with a drink on the terrace all daylong. Overlooks the Rialto Bridge and quite a lot of the Grand Canal. Wonderful staff, owner gave us many suggestions for restaurant. Special thanks to Tomas, the nightperson. He fixed us late night drinks on the terrace and also brought us snacks. We wanted for nothing, except to...

We stayed at this wonderful little place for a night before our cruise. Matteo, Armando, Oliver and the whole staff made us feel as welcome as if we were at our home! Oliver was so kind, helpful with suggestions of places to go, and made our dinner reservations. Breakfast was so yummy with homemade crepes and omelet’s made by Rosalba....

This was by far THE BEST HOTEL that we stayed at in Italy (we also stayed in Florence and Rome). The room was 3x the size of any other hotel room and was decorated in authentic Venetian style. This was important to us because we really wanted to get an authentic feel of the city where we were staying. The...

We stayed here for our anniversary, and it was beyond our expectations. The staff were outstanding, the best service we have ever encountered, and the best breakfasts in the world. The cappucinos, homemade crepes and omelettes made by Rosalba, Oliver and staff were so good. From the restaurant suggestions to directions, Oliver, David and Armando were more than helpful. We...

We stayed at Al Ponte Antico for 3 nights to celebrate our 10th Wedding Anniversary. The location on the Grand Canal near to the Rialto Bridge was perfect for us. You're near to all the main sights, but can also easily get away from the crowds by exploring quieter districts. I would certainly recommend taking a water taxi from/to the...

From the moment we stepped off the water taxi, and were greeted by name by our host, we knew this was going to be great, and it was. A beautifully restored Palazzo, with but 9 rooms for guests, this hotel was like being on a movie set. I kept expecting someone to jump out and say "Cut". But it was...

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
