We have just returned to England after a wonderful three night stay at Hotel Antico Doge. Fabulous hotel in the heart of Venice located just minutes from the Grand Canal and the Rialto Bridge. You really feel as though you are staying in 'Venice' which is what we wanted. The decor is beautiful and the hotel rooms warm, cosy and...

Antico Doge is only 5 minutes from Rialto bridge, but it feels like you are staying off the tourist track. It sits in a decent square, with bars and restaurants that are popular with locals. The staff are very helpful, and the rooms are all spotlessly clean. Most rooms are pretty dark, though, with few with external view windows, but...

We ended our honeymoon in Italy with two nights at the Hotel Antico Doge, located just off the Grand Canal on the Rio Dei S.S. Apostoli. We took a water taxi from the train station, and it was a quick, easy ride, with the taxi docking right across from the hotel on the Campo S.S. Apostoli side of the canal....

This was our second stay at the Hotel Antico Doge, the first being on our honeymoon ten years ago, and it was even better than we remembered. A complimentary upgrade to the Suite Falier and bottle of prosecco on our first night were a lovely surprise and certainly helped, but regardless of that the hotel still wowed us with it's...

We booked three nights at the Antico Doge with Hotels.com and I am convinced that you never ever get the best rooms with them even though we paid for a Deluxe Double Room. The room we were given was classed as Deluxe and had the bed on a mezzanine and seating on the ground floor. We found it small, dark...

Antico Doge is a great choice for a stay in Venice. It's a walking distance to all attractions. There's a small piazza across the hotel where one could relax before retiring to bed. The staff of the hotel are so courteous and efficient. The room was very spacious and clean. I will definitely stay here again.

Antico Doge is in a charming, popular location: alongside a small canal with pretty bridge, a small gondola station and nearby square with a very tall elegant clock tower. It is in a convenient central location: 5 mins from the Rialto Bridge, 20 mins walk from St Marc's Square and within 15-20 mins walk from the quieter area of Carnnargio....

Gave it a 3 star for location. We had the triple room and thank goodness we r short people because if u r tall u will hit your head on the ceiling. Also the bathroom was so small that i could sit on the toilet and brush my teeth at the sink.

Stayed with the lovely folks at Antico Doge the first full week of September - our 4th year in a row and our 5th stay since discovering this marvelous boutique hotel in 2003. From the ever elegant and charming managers - Mariella and Massimo - to the extremely efficient and helpful desk staff, including Sara and Elena - to the...

Great location for a whole of things. 15 euros per person one way via ALILAGUNA boat to and from the airport. Takes 40 mins and a 10 min walk from hotel to the boat. A much more pleasant way than taking a bus and then a river boat and cheaper! Hotel is very clean, classy and quiet too. No major...

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Discover in the gothic walls of Palazzo del Doge Marin Falier, the magic atmosphere of old Venice, where art and history are the expression of an incantation. Facing Campo SS.Apostoli, reflected in the waters of a romantic canal, this is a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in layers of silk, brocades, damasks and gilt mirrors that echo a Serenissima of long ago, a city of travel and commerce with the entire Orient. The Palazzo del Doge Falier, situated close to Piazza S. Marco and the Rialto Bridge, has been restored with passion and attention to detail. The hotel rooms, fitted with every comfort and elegantly furnished with original antique pieces, some have jacuzzi, separate shower cubicles, hairdryers, satellite TV, a direct telephone line, Internet WI-FI, air conditioning with individual room control, a safe-deposit box, and there is a buffet breakfast. The rich treasures of Venice, together with the elegance, prestige and history of our hotel, will make your stay an unforgettable one. ... more   less
