If you like your hotels to have homogeneous rooms, the showroom plastic look, then La Fenice et des Artistes is not for you. The rooms have individual charm and, even if a little tired in places, they have a great deal of character and it would be a pity to try to modernise everything. The whole hotel is hung with...

This hotel is in a quiet location, very near La Fenice, and therefore very central for all the sights - with St Mark's Square 5 minutes walk away. The room we were allocated was like an attic room, with twin beds and a ensuite bathroom. Our bathroom had a bath with shower attachment - however, there was barely any water...

Place is like a maze -really hard to follow an A-Z, but was very beautiful with the Gondolas all around. Gondola rides about 80 euros a boat-but if you share with 3 or 4 its a better deal -definitely worth a ride. Boats that take you around the canal are really frequent and a lovely way to see the city...

I had a great time at this hotel, good value for money....the staff was extremely helpful from the time I checked in till checkout. Breakfast was included which was your typical continental stuff and on my last day I missed breakfast and they prepared some capucciono and a plate for me and this was like 12pm. Staff was extremely friendly...

I won't recommend this hotel to anyone. We paid upfront for a room while we were still in Canada, but the clerk tried to make us pay again when we were checking out. They put us in a room at the back with a broken air conditioner and two very narrow beds. When I objected, they put us in another...

We had arrived to the airport in Venice from Paris and had come across a desk there that books hotels. We started chatting with the lady and she could find some deals and then you end up paying her $4.00 to use her services (not bad as we didn't book any hotels on our trip). She had mentioned the hotel...

We've spent 3 nights at this hotel, the location is central, short distance to everything in San Marco, the room decoration is beautiful, venetian style. The bathroom was small and I had to make some contorsion to use the toilet. Overall very pleasant with kind people but overpriced for what it offers.

Though not modern and sparkly, this hotel was a perfect fit for our nights in Venice. We actually did not spend much time in the room because of exploring the city every day. Our room was overlooking the courtyard. We had a lot of space. It was very clean. The location was central. The breakfast was European with cheeses, meats...

Room size is adequate but the little things are annoying. The sink doesn't drain properly, the paint is peeling from the ceiling, one light in the bathroom is dangling. The staff is very nice however. We've been in nicer hotels in Rome and Florence.

My husband and I stayed here two nights; a friend recommended this hotel to us. It was in a good location - close to everything, but in a quiet square so there wasn't much street noise most of the time. We had very loud upstairs neighbors our second night, but a pair of earplugs solved that problem for me! The...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
