The hotel is really central and the price wasn't too bad for the area. I do not understand how this hotel still has four stars though. It is tatty and faded and unfriendly. We suspected (and this is bourne out by the varied ratings) that the two wings of the hotel are very different as it looks as if part...

Dear Madam, I am surprised to see this comment because we were never informed of their discomfort during yourr four-day stay. You have never asked to speak with the Hotel Manager about these issues, nor did you request a change of room. Even so, there are several factors to consider: 1. This is a historical hotel in the historic district...

Stayed at this hotel with my Mum in early May. It wasn't easy to find at night but its so close to the theatre that we kept asking and people were good enough to point us in the right direction. The first room we wasn't so good - very hot and they wouldn't put the aircon on, but the next...

We stayed in Hotel La Fenice for three nights and loved it. Its location is perfect and we walked absolutely everywhere except to arrive and depart. The St Angelo vaporetto stop is three minutes from the hotel down quaint alleys and we took the orange line to arrive there from the airport. Our room was lovely - clean, pristine with...

A comfortable stay in central Venice, within easy walking distance of many of the main sites, and not too far from the Grand Canal and vaporetto stops. We had a good-sized room for a Venetian hotel, with a modern bathroom. It all appeared to be clean and run efficiently. Helpful reception staff.

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights in October and it spoiled our trip. The first evening I had a luke warm shower and my husband had a cold one. We reported this on our way out to dinner and asked that it be fixed while we were out. When we returned only the night receptionist was on duty...

I have received your comment reviewing your stay at Hotel la Fenice only today. It looks like you had a dreadful time by us, but, checking with the front desk employers, you have been offered to change your room twice. You understood there was a water problem in one wing but you didn’t want to change your room into another...

My husband and I stayed five nights. Great location - you could really walk anywhere in the main area and it was handy for the vaparettos that zoom along the Grand Canal and out to the islands. Our room and bathroom were both large. The mattress was a little too firm for our liking but you can't please everyone. Breakfast...

Stayed here with my Grandaughter. After a muddle of the room, which was quicly and efficiently sorted. We were moved to a room we maned the dolls house, as everything was miniture. However th Hotel itself was very central (once we found it!) and the staff most oblidging. We had the pop up map and suddenly realised that the streets...

Great hotel tucked away just round the corner from San Marco. Rooms are spacious with traditional venetian design, but can get quite hot which the air conditioning did not seem to resolve, but after turning down the radiator and leaving the window a jar throughout the day it seemed bearable. The breakfast in the morning provides a wonderful selection of...

Family and I find the Fenice a honey of a hotel. My husband, daughter, son-in-law, and I settled in for five sweet nights last April in two charming, comfortable, clean rooms. Kids' room had view of Santo Stefano belltower and rio de la Verona. Our room #356 had four windows, one to courtyard with lush cascading wisteria; one to garden...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
