We loved the location of the hotel, near the grand canal. Very nice staff and good breakfast with view of the grand canal as well. The only down point is the stairs inside of the hotel but in our case we stayed in a room in another building that had less stairs to climb.

We had stayed for 4 days at this hotel (end of March to the first 2 days of April 2016). When we tried to check where to stay in Venice with other hotels this was the best for its price and also trip advisor reviews, and also has the facility of a kettle in the room and its location is...

The hotel is tucked down a side street just off the grand canal so the location is fantastic. It is decorated in the traditional Venetian manner and very opulent. Staff are friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good with lots of choice, and the breakfast room has a beautiful view over the canal.

Right by Rialto Bridge, this is a great location to get anywhere you need to be. Since we are in our mid-60's, the stairs were the worst, but we knowingly chose this because of the pictures on their website, and the reasonable cost for Venice. Couldn't have been better. Front desk personnel was cheerful and helpful. Room was wonderfully decorated,...

We had a lovely stay in this residence. It's true that there are many stairs to take, but since we've arrived in the morning, they offered to take our luggage upstairs. Room is small (totally expected in Venice and Italy in general) but supplied with tea-kettle (rare find for Italy small hotels). Staff really friendly, breakfast acceptable. I would recommend...

Fantastic location; clean, small and tidy hotel with only 9 rooms or so in a very old building with helpful and pleasant staff. Beware of the steps - 69 steps from street level to reception and as luck would have it our room was at the very top with a further 18 steps making it 87 steps in total. No...

Although this hotel is a three floor walk up it is well worth it. They had a staff member bring up the bags (he must be very fit!!) the staff were very friendly and helpful in respect of places to go. The room came with a continental breakfast which was very filling. Good size room with en-suite bath. Even had...

We had a small suite over looking the Grand Canal and clear sight of the Rialto Bridge. This was on the same floor as the hotel lobby Only problem, we had to climb 70 stair steps to get there. This hotel is situated on top of another. Thank God for the porters.

I am not disappointed neither happy with hotel, the location is very very good, it really depends how much you are getting the rooms for, for the amount of money I paid it was not worth it. No view, very small and dark room, the hotel has around 70-80 steps to climb.

The hotel is close to Rialto Bridge in the middle of Grand Canal, and is a three start hotel. If you don`t have trouble with stairs, this is a great and central place to stay, but beware that there is 70 steps up to the reception. The room we had was big enough for us, and it was clean which...

Staying in San Polo

Neighbourhood Profile
San Polo
The Rialto Bridge is the most famous sight along the Grand Canal in San Polo, smallest of Venice's six sestieri (districts) and by far the busiest neighbourhood. Morning Venetians arrive to peruse the markets for fish, fruit and vegetables, while shops display goods from cheese to wine to desserts. San Silvestro and Rialto Market vaporetto (water taxi) stops add to the steady stream of foot traffic. San Polo is defined by churches including Basilica dei Frari, one of the most important churches sought by art lovers.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
"Antica Locanda Sturion," probably Venice’s most ancient hotel still running, is a cosy small Venetian House featuring just 11 rooms. Its decor, the ancient style furniture and the Venetian red damask and brocade make it special, creating a truly traditional unique and cosy feeling. A welcoming place from the past with superb and very impressive views on the Grand Canal and Rialto Bridge from the two Superior Rooms and the beautiful Breakfast Lounge, which is also: - a reading room with a tiny yet well-stocked library boasting a number of books in various languages.- a living room for an afternoon break and taking photos of the magnificent sunsets on the Grand Canal. You have just to take a look in the evening or early morning to breathe the magic of Venice and take a dip in the past and its atmosphere. Truly a breathtaking view! This Boutique Hotel is a small and well-established family business run by Nicole, Manuela, Helen and Flavia, who will do all their best to provide you with specific suggestions and advice for an unusual and intriguingly unique approach to our town. And in all our old-style rooms you will find the kettle to prepare a good cup of tea or coffee with complimentary cookies to rest after a long city tour. In a nutshell the right place to breath a truly Venetian and romantic atmosphere. As there is no lift to reach the Locanda, situated on the top floor of an Ancient Palace on the Grand Canal, we want our Guest to be aware they have to climb a long stairs, but our bellman Giuseppe will be happy to help you carrying upstairs your heaviest items.
