We stayed in the Junior Suite for four nights and were presently surprised as we had been warned that hotel rooms in Venice were cramped and very hot in the high summer. Not only did we have plenty of space, but the two air conditioning units were so efficient that we only turned them on for half an hour every...

Four of us stayed in the quad room. What an experience! The room is essentially a suite on the top floor with access to a great private rooftop terrace. Room also has a nice little sitting area. I have never stayed in a room that had so much old-world charm. Air conditioning was great and room had many comfortable blankets....

We stayed at the Hotel Campiello which had been recommended to us by family members who had stayed there in the past. The hotel is friendly, clean and in a great location - very close to St. Mark's square. The vaporetta (water bus) was only a few steps away which allowed us to easily travel around Venice and also over...

3 of us stayed in the Gondolin apartment which is around the corner and separate from the hotel. Plenty of room, clean and comfortable. The location was very convenient to the water taxi (maybe 2 blocks away) and to San Marco Square and many shops and restaurants along the way. Rates were very reasonable especially considering the terrifically high costs...

We stayed here in August for one night before going on a cruise. this was our second stay in two years that says a lot about it. The hotel is very conveniently located near San Zaccaria Vaperetto stop and San Marco square in the heart of Venice. This time we had a regular quad room in the main building. It...

We found this place by doing some research on the web, and it was a great spot. If you have a family the apartments just across courtyard from main hotel are an excellent value. We stayed in the largest, which was a spacious 2 bedroom, 2 bath unit with very modern fittings. The price was remarkably low for the space...

A real winner. Near St Marks Square but might as well be light years away. Situated on a quiet small square this hotel was our cozy and wonderful home for a week in Venice. The room size was ok, the bed firm and restful. The bathroom was a bit small but for Venice what else is new. Breakfasts were very...

Nice and very well located 3-stars hotel, within a 2-min walk from San Zaccharia vaporetto station, without having to cross any bridges, which is wonderful when you have heavy bags to carry, like my 2 friends and I. Piazza San Marco is a 2-3 min walk away, and the Rialto Bridge 10 min away. The room is quite simple, but...

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
