This B&B is in a great location just round the corner from the Doge's Palace museum and S. Marco Square but tucked away down a side street so in a quiet setting. We had a double + ensuite and a single (with shared bathroom) - both rooms were OK, comfortable and clean. This place is reasonably good value though the... More

I stayed with my daughter for 3 nights in late March. Due to perfect directions from the property, we walked off the train, to the vaporetta and straight to our hotel. Easy. Our room overlooked a canal with singing gondoliers passing by. The hotel is just northwest of St Mark's with every surrounding street and alleyway full of intriguing shops... More

Firstly this is not a hotel with all the bells and whistles, it doesn't have an elevator or en suite bathrooms, it's has shared bathroom facilities only. The stairways are narrow and steep. So if you have large heavy luggage you'll have trouble with them by the time you get to the 3rd floor. Not recommended for the aged or... More

This review is for the overflow apartments that are offered by Albergo Doni. When the hotel was full, we decided to go with one of their apartments and it was a good decision. We met Nicos at the hotel and he walked us 5 minutes to the apartment that is located on Calle del Vin, just around the corner from... More

This little hotel is centrally located just off the waterfront square, San Zaccaria. For those, like us, travelling as a family we were looking for a small apartment rather than renting 2 bedrooms in the hotel and the owners were happy to oblige. It appears that they have 3 such apartments just a short walk from the hotel with large,... More

Although this is an old hotel, I found it pleasant. It has a terrific location and you can see the gondolas right outside your door. The staff are very friendly and the price was affordable. Our room was very clean and we did have a private ensuite and it was a very large size however the bathroom did have a... More

First the upside. This older boarding house feeling hotel is in a great location. However, we initially had a hard time finding it. The staff is friendly and gave us some good recommendations for restaurants. The interiors reminded me of what I think of as old Venice. Now the downside. The double bedded room we had was actually two very... More

Stayed here for a night this week and it was spot on. It's two streets off St Mark Square and relatively cheap considering the location. The room was small but it had a bed and the shower worked fine, so no complaints from us. We're on holiday and only use the hotel to sleep and clean! Breakfast was fine the... More

My husband and I stayed at the Albergo Doni Hotel in Venice. This hotel was in a great location: 5 minutes walking distance to St. Mark's Square and 2 minutes walking from the San Zaccharia water taxi station. Easy for transporting to other areas of the island or to the different islands around Venice. Even though we were in the... More

The location of this hotel is fantastic! Walking distance to the main square, about two minutes. We stayed in a bedroom that had its own shower (there are rooms that don't have a shower so you have to share with other guests). The bedrooms were a good size, bed, wardrobe, chair for luggage. No soundproof at all in the rooms.... More

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
