Nothing on the fancy side, but rooms were clean and provided bed, bathroom and lights. Breakfast was very simple but fine. Staff very friendly and helpful, so though we found the price to be very high maybe we paid most for the location which was just perfect. 100m from the Doge-palace and St Mark's square.

Very easy to find, just a 2 minute walk from San Zaccaria water stop. Friendly reception staff made us feel very welcome, spoke English. We arrived early but our room was ready so could get straight in. They do offer luggage store though and we made use of this after check out. Bathroom and room clean and nicely furnished, had...

Fellow Travelers, It is my distinct pleasure to review the Commercio and Pellegreino. The Commercio and Pellegrino Hotel is located very close to the Piazza San Marco. If you like to be very close to the center of the city this hotel is for you. The rooms are super clean and the service is like being at your Nona's (grandmother's)...

After a water bus it was a 2 second walk and perfect location. Hotel is small, friendly but offer a 5 star welcome. We could not ask for more, free breakfast that was a breakfast with the coffee juices and bread to toast, and so much more. They offered afternoon tea and cake each day once again included. The room...

Amazing location. So close to the square and to many eating places nearby. Fast attentive service, clean rooms. Run away from the neighbouring restaurants which are tourist traps but go for the small coffee shops. Definitely a place to return

This was my third stay at the hotel, and I continue to refer people there. Simple. Not fancy. Small rooms, but well equipped. Elevator. Family run, and various members are always present. Decent breakfast. But the location really makes it. Next to the Danieli, very easy to reach the vaparetos and airport waterbus. Lots of restaurants, bars, and shops within...

We stayed in the Hotels apartment in Nov, which is located 50m away on the same street. A perfect place, the apartment was spotlessly clean and had every thing you needed for a short stay. A small kitchen dinning area, bathroom, double bedroom and a living room with a sofa bed. Plenty of place to eat and drink and only...

We recently spent 5 nights here. The room was small, even by European standards, but quite comfortable. Most of the staff is quite friendly and helpful. I requested and received 2 twins (pushed together) anticipating the size of the room and this was perfect. Bathroom quite small. Breakfast is no frills, but easily enough to get the day started with...

Stayed here for one night before joining a cruise ship. We took the Alilaguna water bus and the hotel is minutes from the San Zaccaria stop. Warm welcome and so in the room, compact and bijou, but we were only there for one night so perfect. Free wifi was a definite boost and it worked well. Breakfast was perfectly adequate...

We decided to come to Venice to celebrate both of our 60th birthdays. We are currently staying at this hotel after a friend recommended it. The staff are very friendly and it is spotlessly clean. We read the reviews before we came and made sure that we brought an extension lead with us as there is only 1 socket in...

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
