never thought of how easy it was for us to locate this hotel from san zacarria where a vaporetto dropped us off. had a great stay on this vintage venetian hotel with decent room staffed by hospitable personnel. breakfast was simple with fresh coffee/tea set dispense on demand. this hotel is literally a 5 minute walk to piazza san marco

We stayed in one of the hotels apartments which is located just down the street from the hotel. The apartment we stayed in was called The Marco Polo, it is situated on the top floor and is up three flight of stairs. The apartment block doesn't have a lift so if you have small children or are unsteady then this...

We had a huge 2 bedroom apartment which was recently refurbished, large lounge/diner and small but functional kitchen. It could have done with a toaster, grill or microwave but we ate out except for breakfast anyway. The location is fantastic, minutes from San Marco and the Grand Canal. I don't know how often the place is cleaned as we were...

This Hotel is in a very convenient location, being a short walk (2 minutes) from the water taxi & Airport water taxi stop and just around the corner from Piazza San Marco. This Hotel delivered excellent customer service The Staff at front desk were knowledgeable and friendly. The rooms are smallish in size but typical of Venetian Period hotels. Our...

Nothing on the fancy side, but rooms were clean and provided bed, bathroom and lights. Breakfast was very simple but fine. Staff very friendly and helpful, so though we found the price to be very high maybe we paid most for the location which was just perfect. 100m from the Doge-palace and St Mark's square.

Fellow Travelers, It is my distinct pleasure to review the Commercio and Pellegreino. The Commercio and Pellegrino Hotel is located very close to the Piazza San Marco. If you like to be very close to the center of the city this hotel is for you. The rooms are super clean and the service is like being at your Nona's (grandmother's)...

After a water bus it was a 2 second walk and perfect location. Hotel is small, friendly but offer a 5 star welcome. We could not ask for more, free breakfast that was a breakfast with the coffee juices and bread to toast, and so much more. They offered afternoon tea and cake each day once again included. The room...

Amazing location. So close to the square and to many eating places nearby. Fast attentive service, clean rooms. Run away from the neighbouring restaurants which are tourist traps but go for the small coffee shops. Definitely a place to return

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
