The hotel staff and owner were very welcoming. The hotel is very clean and is in a great position to explore Venice.

simply beautiful hotel with windows that open up to a view of the canal. the interior was amazing and felt like going back in time to Victorian-era Italy. Bathroom (and rest of the room) was clean. Location was superb, only a 5 minute walk to...More
We stumbled across Al Vagon Hotel simply by looking at Trip Advisor. The previous reviews are very accurate. The hotel is exceptionally well placed just on a small square, just a few minutes walk from Rialto Bridge and on the main pedestrian walkway between St...More
Staff, service, cleanliness 100% perfect. Everything works, the A/C, the shower and if the hotel inspector were to call, he wouldn't find a spek of dust anywhere! Bed very comfortable, room nice size - not huge but not small. We chose this hotel for 3...More
We had a roomy triple with an equally good sized bathroom. The room furniture was minimal and what was there looked like antiques, very old world charm. The windows have the standard venetian wooden shutters. The AC was AMAZING after a hot day of walking...More

Italy > Veneto > Province of Venice > City of Venice > Venice > Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby
shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
