I've been staying at Hotel Ala lots of times and it is a positive experience every time I come to Venice. The hotel is located few minutes from San Mark Square and offers the choice of privacy in a city where the tourists outnumber the Venetian 3 to 1.

Great hotel to stay at in the heart of Venice, and within walking distance to anything you wish to see. Very clean rooms with very nice housekeeping and staff, always willing to help. There is also a nice little bar in the lobby with great bar tenders.

This was our second visit to Hotel Ala, and we chose it again because it is so near the grand canal and the alilaguna boat from the airport. Also easy walking to San Marco, Accademia, Rialto etc. Very comfortable room with 3 windows overlooking a small canal. Unfortunately the hotel bar was closed when we were there due to the...

You get out of the boat and the only street you find gets you directly to campo sta Maria del Giglio where you find the belissimo hotel Ala. We got a quick check in. Entered the room guided by a really nice employee and it was so clean and new. The view is nice. Love to ear the bells ringing...

Lovely corner room for my wife's 50th birthday. Great to able to borrow decent umbrellas from reception. The only disappointment was the use of polystyrene cups in the room - no need for disposable cups for tea and coffee.

Have been to Venice before and stayed in a big chain hotel but this time we thought we would go Venetian. Took the right choice with the Hotel Ala. Beautiful historical building. Lovely rooms. Even had rose petals on the bed as it was the wifes birthday. All the staff were very pleasant and would help you out with anything....

A very comfortable stay in a beautiful hotel. The location is perfect, just a short walk to St marks square and seconds away from the water bus line. The breakfast is buffet style and the choices are diverse and plentiful. The beds are comfortable and the shower powerful. I would definitely recommend.

I'm writing this review in Room 278 at the moment. It's the room facing the staircase. You can imagine hearing all the noises and coming and going. Every minute or so there's slamming of a door. It's just awful. On the plus side the hotel is a 30-second/50-meter walk from vaporetto stop Giglio, and a convenient walk to Piazza San...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
