I had a pretty rough day, waking up at 6 am, I got there around 10.30 11 pm ish. I struggled a bit to find the hostel, btw it's in a good position almost 5 - 10 minutes to San Marco square, when I got there it was pretty cold and I found a piece of paper on the bell...

The location of the hostel is quite central, but also in a calm area. The hosts were really nice and helpful! They and us guests also spend some time together in the kitchen, so it felt more like sharing a flat than staying at a hostel. In the kitchen you can find everthing you need for cooking your own food...

ok. so Academy in general is in good location as it near by landmarks of Venice. It is cheap (compared to other hostels in Venice) but not cheaper than the hostels in other cities. Downside is it ruined my 3-day trip. I arrived Venice at 10pm and took me 2 hours to find the hostel as there is no significant...

When I checked in they would not offer a receipt. Nor do they accept credit card. You must ask for a record for staying there! The staff was horribly unhelpful when asked questions and treated the guests like pests! I was yelled at for wanting to use the toilet during cleaning hours from 11-1. Upon check out they marked my...

Bad location. Unhelpful staff. The price per night online is 21 euros. But as I checked in, the staff said "If you want a clean bed sheet, you need to pay for it. Also, you need to pay the tax.... " In the end, the final price was 37 euros per night, which was ridiculous!!!!! Don't stay there. Not recommended.

My girlfriend and I stayed at this hotel during a backpacking trip around Europe, we booked the hotel as their website mentioned free tours, breakfast, washing, etc. Upon arrival we were told none of this was true. The hotel also mis-charged us and took extra payment from our bank. The hotel was not clean and very poorly located.

The hostel refused to honour the price agreed online. The staff were extremely rude and threatened to cancel my booking altogether. The facilities are terrible. There us a stove in the kitchen but guests are not allowed to use it. The man who works there is incredibly unfriendly and scowls at all the guests. No atmosphere. Too hot. Overpriced. Please...

Good central location with easy walking distance to main attractions (san marco, rialto etc.). Closest waterbus route on grand canal is also less than 100m. Hostel had very good...

Really good price for Venice and a very good location. A few weird rules like having to be out of the accomadation completley between 10am and 1pm but we would have been out then sightseeing anyway! For any affordable accomadation actually on the island of venice go to this place!

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
