We have stayed here a handful of times since it opened and it is first choice for us. The balance between price and comfort is excellent. You are made to feel at home as soon as you get there and the sitting room overlooking the small garden has an honesty bar and snacks at varying times. The decor is delightfully...

Location isn't everything, but it is a major something. A 5 minute walk from a stop on the airport water taxi, and a 10 minute walk from Piazza San Marco, this simple, friendly, family-run, 9 room boutique hotel is in the center of things but not overrun with the crowds of ear-phoned wired up cruise boat tourists that are a...

This was our fourth visit to The Novecento and it just gets better every time! We received a fantastic welcome from Marisa and stayed in a beautiful room. Sadly this stay was for only 1 night but we will certainly return! Thank you so much we love Novecento.

The hostess was the most friendly and helpful! She did all she could to make our stay very special. This hotel is unique, with old world charm and just enough modern amenities for us New Yorkers ;) The rooms were spacious, with very comfortable beds and modern bathrooms. We cannot wait to return to this hotel and the beautiful city...

In looking at "Places to see before you die", found the listing for Hotel Flora. It was booked and suggested we try "sister hotel" turned out to be Novecento, a great find! Web site is very nice and inviting. Location is great getting off the water taxi @ Giglio. Leaving is even cooler, walking to the water just out of...

In celebration of my 60th birthday, I designed my first big solo trip and headed off to Italy in the heat of mid August. My first stop, Venice and Hotel Novecento. Being a resident of NYC, I always enjoy being off the beaten path whenever possible so this boutique hotel comprised of 9 rooms was perfetto! The staff is exemplary....

My husband and I have just left this little treasure. It is conveniently situated 20 mins from the station but just 20 mins from the basilica. The staff were extremely attentive before we even arrived sending detailed descriptions of how to find them and answering all questions. We were given several fantastic reservations for food and really enjoyed the Mediterranean...

We were in Venice in July so air conditioning was a must and we found this little boutique hotel to be an oasis. The service was amazing. Each day we had great recommendations for dinner and on our final day, pointers for how to navigate the next leg of our trip. In fact, Marina (sp?), checked in on us at...

This was a nice hotel, but not the best on our trip. Some disappointments. Room very hot - AC did not cool it off until about 24 hours later. Staff sometimes uninterested, others very accommodating. Bed comfortable but very low to floor. No where to sit in room but nice big sitting area outside room. Many guide books to borrow...

Beautiful small boutique hotel in a great location on the opposite side of the canal from the Peggy Guggenheim Collection. Rooms are what the hotel call 'Bohemian chic' which is pretty accurate and while small they are comfortable and each one is decorated individually. Loved the location which you can get to easily by ferry from the train station. The...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
