In looking at "Places to see before you die", found the listing for Hotel Flora. It was booked and suggested we try "sister hotel" turned out to be Novecento, a great find! Web site is very nice and inviting. Location is great getting off the water taxi @ Giglio. Leaving is even cooler, walking to the water just out of... More

In celebration of my 60th birthday, I designed my first big solo trip and headed off to Italy in the heat of mid August. My first stop, Venice and Hotel Novecento. Being a resident of NYC, I always enjoy being off the beaten path whenever possible so this boutique hotel comprised of 9 rooms was perfetto! The staff is exemplary.... More

My husband and I have just left this little treasure. It is conveniently situated 20 mins from the station but just 20 mins from the basilica. The staff were extremely attentive before we even arrived sending detailed descriptions of how to find them and answering all questions. We were given several fantastic reservations for food and really enjoyed the Mediterranean... More

We were in Venice in July so air conditioning was a must and we found this little boutique hotel to be an oasis. The service was amazing. Each day we had great recommendations for dinner and on our final day, pointers for how to navigate the next leg of our trip. In fact, Marina (sp?), checked in on us at... More

This was a nice hotel, but not the best on our trip. Some disappointments. Room very hot - AC did not cool it off until about 24 hours later. Staff sometimes uninterested, others very accommodating. Bed comfortable but very low to floor. No where to sit in room but nice big sitting area outside room. Many guide books to borrow... More

Beautiful small boutique hotel in a great location on the opposite side of the canal from the Peggy Guggenheim Collection. Rooms are what the hotel call 'Bohemian chic' which is pretty accurate and while small they are comfortable and each one is decorated individually. Loved the location which you can get to easily by ferry from the train station. The... More

What a gorgeous boutique hotel, full of character! The staff were so welcoming, the room was perfect for myself and 2 children! The hotel was well equipped with guidebooks to browse through, board games, an honesty bar, coffee , tea and cake in the salon downstairs.Wifi too. It has a fabulous and huge upstairs lounge. It was very clean, the... More

A beautiful boutique hotel full of charm and character. Situated a 5-10 minute walk from St Mark's square the hotel is ideally located. We received an extremely warm and friendly welcome and received a room upgrade on arrival and complementary glass of prosecco. The room was very clean, comfortable and well presented with air conditioning which was very welcome. Breakfast... More

I travelled alone to Venice in June 2016, and simply could not have chosen a better hotel. Small, quiet, very central and beautifully furnished and maintained, what sets it apart is the service. The hotel is run seamlessly by the manager Marisa, who felt like a friend from the moment I arrived. I must also mention Paola and Davide, always... More

We stepped in the door and knew we had found the perfect place to stay. It is located in a quiet neighborhood but within easy walking distance of what we had come to see. The room was beautiful, large, quiet with a large comfortable sitting area right out the door. The breakfast had a good variety and provided a wonderful... More

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
