First time to Venice. We used a private water taxi arranged by the B&B. While it was convenient, it was extremely expensive, the driver was rude- he just threw our bags on the floor of the boat and pointed to us to go inside. The top was not open - which is one of the reasons you use this service...

Very professional ,small ,6 room hotel-excellent cleanliness and comfort.Side rooms have a view over a tiny canal but the gondolas go up and down this all day long ,so some great photo opportunities if you want to hang out the window. The breakfast room also has great views over the Grand canal.Water bus station right outside door -20 minute ride from...

This small hotel is on the third floor of a lovely old building just yards from the Rialto bridge, so an excellent location. The Alilaguna waterbus stops just outside but it's quite easy to miss the small sign on the door ( although the building itself is quite distinctive). The hotel is pretty tranquil, given it's busy location - we...

We stumbled onto the location of Palazzo Bembo while exploring the area near the Rialto bridge. Like Palazzo Mora, the entry is free. We enjoyed the T-S-E events better than the main Biennale events, so this worth your time to see. I especially enjoyed the videos showing daily life that take place in the house (Japan) and apartment block (Hamburg...

A decent place to stay close to Rialto Bridge. Slightly faded, this Palazzo could benefit from a bit of updating to match the pricing levels. However it remains a friendly, spotlessly clean place to stay. We had the Junior Suite with San Marco Bell Tower View (#106) which was OK but not really a suite as shown on the photographs....

Stayed 3 nights in this charming place. So lucky to get the room at the front where we could look out on the Grand Canal and the Rialto Bridge and hear the gondoliers serenading their passengers. The breakfast was good and plentiful with a selection of cold cuts, bread, cereals and fruit and a choice of coffee although the percolated...

The Palazza Bembo is a charming B&B on the 3 floor of a building on the Grand Canel it has only 6 rooms. Front desk staff were exceptionally helpful on check in supplying us with maps and showing places to go out of the main tourist traps. We booked the room that looked over the canel and could see the...

Amazing Hotel situated next to Rialto Bridge. Walked passed it a few times as refurbishment taking place on the lower 2 floors (not part of the hotel). Service was excellent, bottle of proseco on arrival, which we drank by the grand canal. Highly recommend this hotel.

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
