The check in must be done in another hotel, but they don´t give you the address and it is not written in the hotel either! I found an employee that only spoke italian and try to tell me to go to another hotel to do the check in because there is no reception there. I found in the night a...

The only thing good about this place is the location, 5mins walk from San Marco and Rialto. The accommodation is in an old and worn out building which is an annexe to the nearby Hotel Bella Venezia. Rooms are small, bathrooms very tiny. Furnishings worn out, wall paints peelng off. Not a great place for romance. The street is very...

I stayed 4 nights here, begin April 2016 and paid 90€/night non refundable. Breakfast was excellent and plentiful. The room & bathroom were perfectly clean and tidy every day. Bed linen and towels changed everyday, as it should. The location is perfect: a couple of minutes away from both piazza San Marco and Rialto. The staff was very nice. You...

The apartment was very close to the Rialto bridge and was a good base to explore rest of island. On arrival you need to press buzzer and the porter from the sister hotel comes to collect you and take you to the sister hotel to check in. There is a 5 euro per day tax that you pay at end...

Stayed here for 4 days in june 2016. The hotel is just a few mins from Rialto bridge (if u are getting the vaperetto/waterbus). It is so close to everything and great base to be in. U have to buzz to get porter to come and take you to the sister hotel but that is literally a minute away. You...

If you like to be in the hustle and bustle this hotel is for you. THey actually have 2 buildings right near each other so it can be confusing when checking in. THe lobby and breakfast area of the main hotel and very nice and spacious. Good place to come relax for a bit before taking on the day. The...

A 5 story walk up, not a palace, even by Italian exaggerations . Small rooms. Unless all your planned activity is on the bed, you will be claustrophobic. I could barely fit the desk chair and bed together in the room. Two adults could not change cloths at the same time. Ideal as an annex for kids. Thin walls and...

It is not terrible and certainly not a hostel as it was mentioned earlier. Was tricky to find, inside is tired and smelly, functional but very basic. There is a local club/bar playing loud music till late and you almost feel as if you are sleeping in the street! and we were on the 3rd floor, cant imagine 2nd or...

There are so many hotels in Venice it can be a bit overwhelming where to choose. I was studying in Venice when my partner booked to visit me and hoped to get us a nice hotel. Here's what we got: Palazzo La Scala is in a convenient location for the Rialto bridge/markets and San Marco square/basilica etc. Great if you're...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
