Stayed there for 4 days in July 2006. We are very happy with our choice. Here are the details: - good location (2 min from the vaporato stop; 4 min from the main bridge, all sort of stores/restaurants nearby). - very quiet (it's a block away from a major alley) - very clean with nice remodeled bathroom - ok breakfast... loved this clean and superbly located place until we checked out. Sadly, I discovered that my wallet, and all cash and credit cards were missing. One of the four owners (the other three were very nice) just sat at the desk while my husband struggled to get an outside phone line. He did not help and then, while we were... More

How good was this place! We travelled to Venice in April with our three teenage children and had booked Arco Antico in advance. It lived up to its reputation and we all had a great stay. The staff are very friendly and were able to provide reliable advice on where to eat and shop (a priority for the girls). The... More

My review is similar to the review written back in January. Maybe the rest of the hotel is nice and modern, but my husband and I were placed in a room in the annex as well. It was old, dirty, noisy and shared a kitchen with 3 other rooms. It reminded my of a hostel! Not too mention, the ceiling... More

We enjoyed our stay at the Arco Antico. Our room was very clean with well maintained facilities & linens. When we first arrived we were in a ground level room, very dark and close to foot traffic of other guests. At our requested we were moved the next day to an upper floor room and were very happy with it.... More

We stayed at the Arco Antico for two nights the last week in June. The B&B lived up to all of the other positve reviews here. It is conveniently located, but still a little bit off the beaten track in a real Venetian neighborhood. The property is an easy walk from the San Silvestri vaperatto stop, and the Rialto Bridge... A very good, small b+b hotel just five minutes walk from Rialto Bridge but in a quieter and much nicer location (San Silvestre boat stop). In an area with its own shops and restaurants so you don't have to venture far for dinner, and very convenient for getting everywhere. Spotless rooms, very adequate Italian style breakfast, and owners were very... More

I stayed here with my wife and son (3 yo) for a busy weekend, and the hotel staff answred quickly to our request, aven if we were asking for a stay shorter than most hotels were willing to serve for that WE. The staff was very kind, helpful, really a familiar atmosphere. The location is perfect. It was really worth... More

This hotel is very pleasant, with nicely furnished room and a nice breakfast area. We were in the Tintoretto room as a triple, which features a stairway to the bathroom upstairs which was a little odd. The owners (Marco and Franco, I think) were very nice, and one of them (Marco, I think) was fun to engage in political conversations.... More

This small family run guest house was a fantastic find. The location was perfect, close to the famous Rialto bridge and only a few minutes from a vaporetto stop. Great shops were also only a few minutes walk away in both directions. The immaculately clean room was tastefully decorated with fabric on the walls, stained glass windows and glass lights... More

Staying in San Polo

Neighbourhood Profile
San Polo
The Rialto Bridge is the most famous sight along the Grand Canal in San Polo, smallest of Venice's six sestieri (districts) and by far the busiest neighbourhood. Morning Venetians arrive to peruse the markets for fish, fruit and vegetables, while shops display goods from cheese to wine to desserts. San Silvestro and Rialto Market vaporetto (water taxi) stops add to the steady stream of foot traffic. San Polo is defined by churches including Basilica dei Frari, one of the most important churches sought by art lovers.
