Location is great, hearing the bells toll all night is not. No A/C and was bitten by mosquitos. Yes, in Venice. Breakfast was not good. Mildew all over bathtub. Old furnishings. Hotel needs some work. Everything can improve.

We spent one week here, on a family holiday. Big rooms, with small kitchen (microwave and minibar), livingroom and bedrom w/ connecting bathroom. Old standard! Location is very good, one minute from San Marco square, 2-3 min to Grande Canal and 8-10 min. from Rialto. View from the hotel is not that great. The staff was ok, the beds are...

Only stayed one night but will certainly return. Just a few steps off Piazza San Marco. Helpful staff, very nice breakfast and clean room. Excellent value considering location and amenities. Be advised - you'll hear the bells tolling!

The staff at this so called hotel are extremely rude and unfriendly. The rooms are huge but really old it's only redeeming quality is that it is 1 block from the square. The breakfast is horrible with rude waitresses. Will never stay here again

A friend told me a hotel near St Marks square is crazy vacation planning. This hotel proved her wrong. What a friendly staff, wonderful location and might I say, a charming stay from beginning to end. My room overlooked beautiful tiled neighborhood Venetian roofs, our breakfasts were a spectacular start to busy days roaming around the city sights. I have...

Very disappointed with this place. We did expect that standards may drop in Venice but we found it hard to find, the room was so small- no room for our cases (left on the floor outside the bathroom), no complimentary tea/coffee etc, very few toiletries, constant dripping tap 24hours in the bathroom, tv remote not working(taken to reception and told...

Our travel agent lined my adult son and me up to spend one night at the San Marco. We had come to Venice to meet with the group we were touring Italy with. I was somewhat concerned as I had read reviews before we arrived. We did read the directions on how to find the motel because Venice is quite...

We stayed here 2 nights, price was reasonable with a taxi drive to visit Murano island included when booked the hotel. We saw how the master made Murano glasses and vases, then walked to the gallery where all the items they make are sold. Salespeople are not pushy, offered us drinks and coffee and answered all our enquiries. some of...

We only stayed here 2 nights and this was the most expensive of the 5 hotels we stayed thru our vacation. It was not worth the price, but then again its Venice and every thing is more expensive here. It needs a lot of updating. The only thing we did like is from our room we could open the window...

I recently stayed in this hotel during my trip to Italy and I was so disappointed. The room was a suite in a separate building that had to be reached through an alley. The room was huge but very dated. The bathroom had a weird smell and moldy tiles. The beds and pillows were hard as rocks. The location is...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
