Location is great, hearing the bells toll all night is not. No A/C and was bitten by mosquitos. Yes, in Venice. Breakfast was not good. Mildew all over bathtub. Old furnishings. Hotel needs some work. Everything can improve.More

We spent one week here, on a family holiday. Big rooms, with small kitchen (microwave and minibar), livingroom and bedrom w/ connecting bathroom. Old standard!
Location is very good, one minute from San Marco square, 2-3 min to Grande Canal and 8-10 min. from Rialto....More
Only stayed one night but will certainly return. Just a few steps off Piazza San Marco. Helpful staff, very nice breakfast and clean room. Excellent value considering location and amenities. Be advised - you'll hear the bells tolling!
The staff at this so called hotel are extremely rude and unfriendly. The rooms are huge but really old it's only redeeming quality is that it is 1 block from the square. The breakfast is horrible with rude waitresses. Will never stay here again
A friend told me a hotel near St Marks square is crazy vacation planning. This hotel proved her wrong. What a friendly staff, wonderful location and might I say, a charming stay from beginning to end. My room overlooked beautiful tiled neighborhood Venetian roofs, our...More

The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and
Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.

The airport is on the mainland and you cannot take a taxi to your motel because there are no streets in Venice for cars. You can get to your motel several ways. You can take a "water taxi" from the airport to the dock by San Marco Piazza, which is as close as you can get to the hotel. You will need to walk the equivalent of a few long blocks (1/4 mile?) to the San Marco Palace. The less expensive way (and quite easy) is to go to a booth at the airport and purchase a ticket for Venice' public transportation. You can buy a combo bus ticket and ferry pass to get to the hotel. The bus will transport you to Venice to the bus stop. At that point you will transfer to a ferry, which will take you to the dock by San Marco Piazza. You will then need to again walk the several blocks to your hotel. It works well to buy a 2-3 day pass, which is good to use whenever you want to go somewhere by ferry. It was inexpensive ($34 for one 48 hour pass). For instance, you can hop on the ferry to visit one or several of the islands by Venice. (The companies are ATVA and ATVO; you will see the booths quite readily). I do recommend packing light since you will need to walk with your luggage. I also recommend checking out the hotel's website or calling them for specific directions to the hotel before you arrive. Essentially, you will go into the San Marco Piazza, which contains the impressive St. Mark's Basilica. The opening for the little street that takes you to the hotel is located on the same side of the piazza (square) that has a big clock on it. The opening is located about in the middle of that side. You will find a little bridge (over a canal) that you go across. The hotel will be on the right-hand side. The sign on the double doors will say "Hotel San Marco", not "San Marco Palace". It frankly is a little tricky to find, but this is true of every place in Venice! They don't have traditional streets that cars can drive down, so they don't have traditional street names either. Once you do arrive, I believe you will enjoy your stay! I hope this helps.
