First off, the hostel management is incredibly rude and has no problem with yelling at visitors. Management also cuts off power in the middle of the night and refuses to allow us to turn on the heat when its cold. In terms of cleanliness, the hostel is very dirty, unorganized, worn down. Furthermore, there is no sense of security with... More

It was OK for a place to stay although a Swedish girl told me she had been bit by what she thought were fleas on her bed. I had really fun roommates including sometime from my county so I had a great time but one day they came back rather hammered and one the administrators died up very angry and... More

Absolutely amazing location, could not have asked for better! Right near a supermarket and not even a ten minute walk to the main square. Really nice staff and the place was always clean. Loved the set up, was like two separate apartments but we could use either side. The kitchen was really good, and had all we needed to make... More

A nice place to stay, hospitable staff, clean bathrooms and linen. Were provided with blankets upon request. The owner gave us a map with tips regarding places for visit. There are no lockers or bedside tables. 7 min to San Marco on foot.

Fairly cheap for Venice but still a little on the pricey side! Nice enough hosts. Hostel is quite difficult to find so definitely look up instructions first and take a map. Kitchens were small but provided the essentials. Only one bathroom per floor which is definitely not enough. Very very hot and only an old fan to keep you cool.... More

The hostel was dirty, the showers were somewhere between Mordor and Pluto in temperature, and the owner was rude. It's safe to say I didn't have a great experience in this hostel. We received little to no information about our stay and it was relatively difficult to find. The bedding that we received was thick and uncomfortable for the July... More

Well all I can say about staying here is that it was an experience. When we showed up the owner, a man named Amran, greeted us. He's quite a funny guy, lots of banter but I can understand why people think he comes off a bit rude... However he was very helpful and provided us with a map which he... More

Very expensive for what you get. Simple accommodations. They don't even provide sheets and didn't tell us that so we found out when we went to bed. The staff were kind of rude and we had to pay an extra 6 euro tax even though Hostel World showed the exact amount we should have owed and specifically said that it... More

The staff named Amran is quite unfriendly, even rude to the guests. The wife is so bad. For most of the time, you can not connect to it. Bed and the blanket are dirty. You can see the dirty spot on the blanket. It looks like the urine or blood in some place. The location is quite far. You almost... More

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
