Hotel Mercurio is perfectly located, a short walk from St. Mark's Square. The rooms, although tiny, are very clean & appeared to be recently modernized & refurbished. It can be a long climb up the stairs, but hey, you need to get your exercise while you're in Venice....& if not, the extremely friendly & helpful reception staff will cheerfully help...

We found this hotel through trip advisor and can confirm it is everything we had hoped for. It is definitely a no frills hotel but it is clean and in a perfect location for St Mark's Square. We could easily walk to all the best known sites and the canal view from the superior double was well worth the extra...

Fabulous! We stayed in Suite 53 which is HUGE, spotlessly clean & a fabulous view of the canal. There are 4 windows in the room including 2 with small balconies where you can watch the gondolas go by (get ready for plenty of waving tho as everyone waves as they sail past!) 120 Euro's a night...What a bargain! I wouldn't...

The hotel map is clear/precise and we have no difficulty locating the hotel after leaving the ferry stop. It took us around 5 mins walk to the hotel. Upon reaching, their staff, Monica greeted us warmly and brought us to Suite 53 which I have booked from her 2 months in advance. This suite is really fabulous and huge! We...

Very Central location easy walk through to St Marks Square and Rialto. Difficult to find at first but if you book ,email the hotel the hotel which i didnt do and they will give a very simple map which is more direct than trying to find your way from a map of venice, these are extremely complicated to follow. The location 5 mins from St Marcs square and Rialto was fantastic and Monica was extemely helpful. The only down side was the hard pillows! We were amazed at the value and suprised at...

I reviewed the Hotel Mercurio before our trip to Venice and the reviews were very accurate. A small hotel, close to St Mark's Square in a lovely part of Venice. Clean, friendly staff and adequate breakfast. The rooms are small but adequate for the time you spend in them. Very helpful and friendly staff. I would certainly recommend this hotel...

I just returned from Europe and our 1st stop was Venice, Italy. Venice is a beautiful place but is packed full of tourists from all over the world that want to see this amazing place on water. The tiny cobblestone alleys can be a bit confusing at first but with the instructions from the Hotel Mercurio's website, we found our...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
