The hotel is too expensive! Very very very very very small room but clean which is good. Not worth the money though! Good location very near san marco square. Front desk staff are friendly. There is no bell service to assist you with your bags going to the room. The rates would change and increase especially on the weekend.

I would definitely recommend this hotel as it was the perfect base for a trip to Venice. The location was perfect only a stones throw away from St Marks Square yet on a quiet street near to a picturesque piazza with a delicious tavern opposite and plenty of cafes and bars in the immeidate vicinity. The room was compact but...

We spent one night at hotel san maurizio and that was far too long. Had our funds permitted we would have found ourselves somewhere else. Having spent quite a lot of time in youth hostels, I can confidently say that here you are mostly paying for the location, which is very central and convenient for major sights. But Venice is...

Dear Guest, we feel very sorry because you didn't appreciate your stay with us. Staying only few hours you found so many defects! The room was a normal size, not dark but with a big window,The bed is made of 2 singles because there are people who want twin beds room. The operation of lamp is very simple:you can switch on...

It was unseasonably hot when we 'found' the Maurizio. We had been staying in an unbearably hot and noisy room in Piazza Margherita. We felt lucky they had a room for us, and it turned out to be a beautiful room with air conditioning. Even when the heat broke and it began to rain, we were glad for the cool,...

The hotel is near enough to San Marco that getting to it in minutes is completely possible. Our room was clean and the best pillows we have found in Europe. The room has been rather quiet with ambient noise during peak times. Yes, the air conditioner works hard, when it is this hot & humid it does feel good, it...

Hotel San Maurizio ticked all the boxes. It's in a great location, close to the vapiertto. The room was well kept, whilst not overly big, spacious enough, similar size to most other accommodation we've had in Europe. The staff were all very pleasant and helpful. Their English was fantastic which made things easier for us. They were happy to answer...

It took a while to get to this hotel from Treviso airport, a shuttle bus (40 mins) then a water bus (Vaparetto) 45 minutes but then it was a short 3 minute walk from Gigilo. Once you're there the journey is worth while due to how central it is. The hotel had a electrical gate, which made the venue feel...

We were two American backpackers passing through Venice. We found this place when looking for a hostel (unsuccessfully) for a while. The price was about $100 U.S. dollars per night for two twin sized beds. (Not stacked, though!) The place was very clean. The style was very venetian and we enjoyed the stay. The linens are a bit worn, but...

Stayed at this hotel in the end of May 2012 and did not like the stay. Admittedly, the location is excellent - quick walk to major attractions, but there's too many strikes against this place. Most importantly, the air conditioner in our room was not powerful enough. Despite running the entire time, the room was like an oven and sleeping...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
