Stayed at Ca Del Campo on 21 Oct for 2 nights. What a fantastic location. It certainly helped finding the hotel by using a previous reviewer's directions which were very helpful. As you arrive at St Marks Square, take the road under the clock, turn right and you arrive at San Zulian Church (a landmark to look out for is...

We stayed to celebrate our first anniversay. Trying to find the hotel was a bit of a nightmare, with none of the locals really either helpful or interested in being helpful. That said our taxi driver was great (water taxi is a great way to enter the city - and totally worth it despite the cost). Having found the hotel,...

We booked a family room at this hotel as we needed a babysitter for the Saturday night of our 2 day stay. The hotel quoted EURO 150 for the evening - 5 hours on an average nothing special weekend in the off season. Incredible. With no other choice, we had to take their one babysitter and really hated paying 30...

Ok, booked through hotwire maybe, got a good price. I wouldn't have paid actual hotel quoted price ever. For what we paid it was adequate. Hotel location is great. 1 minute from St. Marks square. There are a lot of places to eat and shop at just outside the door and the hotel is safe and secure during the evenings....

Booked 2 rooms for my partner and 3 adult kids in July after reading good reviews on TA. Rooms and bathrooms were decent size for Venice. Ideally located about 3 minute walk from San Marco Square and 5 minutes from the Rialto area , the hotel is very nicely laid out and very clean. We paid Euro 150 for the...

This place is like a boutique hotel. There is no bar here, the breakfast in the morning is typical European. The rooms are very clean and the staff is very accommodating. If you are going to Venice this is the place to stay. I have been to Venice 3 times and if I ever went back I would stay here....

After arriving at the rail station, we took the water bus to St. Marks. We had a little difficulty actually finding the hotel the first time, because it has no big sign, but once we did we went into an old building that was TOTALLY modernized and quite lovely. Our room was a triple and it was actually a big...

This hotel was great. When we arrived on the train and caught a water bus, it seemed like forever away, but when we got there, this was a hotel right in the heart of Venice. St. Mark's square was two streets away. The hotel staff were most polite and helpful and really attended to our every need. The room was...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
