Absolutely love this hotel. This staff, location, rooms, food all excellent. If I could score it more I would. Nothing is too much trouble, and the little extras the hotel provide are an added bonus. Thoroughly recommend it.

We spent several nights in Venice and enjoyed our accommodations at the Hotel Palazzo Abadessa in the Canareggio District somewhat out of the hustle and bustle of the tourist-filled areas. The hotel entrance is through a beautiful garden, and the staff was gracious and helped us from start to finish. Continental breakfast each morning was perfect, right down to the...

We had a wonderful two night stay in the beautifully Venetian Palazzo Abadessa. Our standard room was elaborately decorated with original hand painted beams and gold fabric. The breakfast and pastries in particular were incredible, the welcome and hospitality was very warm and the location was fantastic - quiet but central. Only critique is we would have loved a bath...

We have just returned from a delightful five days at this lovely palazzo. It was absolutely perfect in every way. We chose a superior room (15) and it fulfilled all our expectations and more!!!! Excellent facilities immaculately clean. Turn down service in the evening whilst we were out for dinner. Its position on a small canal is just perfect and...

Cannot recommend this hotel highly enough, I will be telling all my friends to go. Fantastic decor, rooms, breakfast and location. 10 minutes walk to S Marks Square, Cannaregio, great area of Venice to stay in. Complimentary afternoon tea, nice touch.

We spent five days in Palazzo Abadessa in late February/ early March in a superior room. It was large and spacious with a nice sitting area having a view over the courtyard garden. The room was immaculate with clean bedding every day. Nice breakfast in a beautiful dining room. Staff were helpful but unobtrusive. Excellent location in Cannaregio, good restaurants...

This hotel was fantastic and met all our needs for our stay. The location was ideal, not too far off a busy street but it felt secluded and quiet with the lovely gardens and high walls. It was only 10/15 minutes from Rialto bridge and in one of the best areas for food and drink. We stayed in a deluxe...

Put our extended family up here in September 2016. Wonderful location in a "real" neighbourhood of Venice, just 10 min walk from St Mark's Square but away from the madding crowds. Tiny, hard to find alley (this is good) leads to hotel - one of the only ones in all Venice with a private garden (lost tourists think it's a...

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
