Stayed here fore two nights in November. I was quite pleased. The hotel is well appointed and very clean. There is an internet computer that you can use. Someone complained about the breakfast. I really can't. Its more than you get at a lot of places and its free. I had no problems with rancid milk or anything like that....

I agree with everything said in the previous review. We left too early for breakfast though so can't comment about this. All that I can add is that the sign on the door is very small so watch carefully for it or you will wander around for awhile like we did, passing the door and not being aware. Also, there...

Great new pensionne -- and a great value for the price. In fact, when we stayed here it was not yet listed on TripAdvisor.com. Our travel agent had heard of this gem and recommended it. It's the first time we've stayed somewhere not rated on TripAdvisor. Despite our reservatinons, we were very, very pleased. This small (5 room) hotel is in a...

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
