We selected the Bonvecchiati because we found a great and reasonable package at a time when the dollar was very weak. Compared to the more "elegant" hotels on the Grand Canal, we got a very good deal. We ended up liking the hotel very much even though it is not "Italian elegance" like some others we saw. The location is...

Modern, clean little hotel. Good location near San Marco square, which is where you want to be if it's your first time to Venice. Room is small, typical of Europe. But bathroom is modern and very clean. Nice extra service like bed turn down at night. Only disappointment was the poor recs from front desk girls for restaurants. Went with...

Have just returned from 5 night stay at this hotel. Got extremely warm welcome on our arrival by concierge "Ugo" at reception. Gave us helpful advice about how to spend our first day in Venice. Room gorgeous, very clean, felt like we were the first to use it. Beautiful bathroom - stylish and well equipped. They had thought of everything,...

Overall this hotel was great. The design esthetic is very modern which is unexpected for Venice, but nice. The location is perfect. It is right between Rialto Bridge and Saint Marc's Square (about a 2 minute walk to either). They have a water door so it is really fun to arrive via water taxi....or get dropped off on a gondola...

We stayed at the Palace Bonvecchiati at the end of September and loved it. We got the standard room and they upgraded us to a room with a terrace which was fantastic. Although not much of a view, the terrace was wonderful to sit out and enjoy the beautiful weather and gave us the feel of having a larger room....

Everything about this hotel was perfect. We booked A Taste of Venice package. We had a junior suite overlooking a side canal. It was vey roomy; lovely bathroom complete with a live orchid and bidet; shutters that blocked all the noise and light for sleeping. Breakfast each morning offered everything anyone could want in an European breakfast and more. The...

Palace Bonvecchiati was a great hotel. We were upgraded to a junior suite. The location is ideal right between rialto & st. marks square. We took the water bus from the train stain and it was very easy walk to the hotel (even with a lot of luggage). We did get a private transfer to the airport which was absouletly...

This was our first trip to Venice. We stayed at the Palace Bonvecchiati for two nights, prior to joining a Med cruise, and it suited our needs perfectly. Interestingly (having read other recent reviews), we didn't book a "superior" room, and it was just fine. Very modern, clean white cotton sheets & duvet, comfy bed, modern, clean bathroom with large...

We stayed at the Palace Bonvecchiati (hereinafter referred to as PB) for three nights during the first week of September. We selected the hotel for its modern/contemporary decor, not knowing that a big plus is its convenient location near the Rialto Bridge and San Marco's Square. Incidentally, I would disagree with those who think it is easier to get to...

I want to start by saying that I am not sure who to blame for the experience we had at this hotel. We booked the room through Orbitz and then I emailed the hotel to request a nice room as it was our honeymoon. We arrived to find that we were booked in a handicapped room. There was nowhere to...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.

“If you have a canal view, understand that you may have "noise" from the singing/accordions on the gondolas. This was charming for us but may be irritating in high season if more frequent.”
