The location is the best for the price that you will pay. The receptionist is very polite and helpful person. One of the bathrooms on the second floor has an awesome mirror with lighting that helps you do your makeup better. However, the bed was a little narrow for two skinny girls to sleep normally. Also I consider that during...

Sylvia at the concierge went out of her way to help our little issues. We could not have asked for a more central location, nor a friendlier staff. Yes its not a 5* hotel, but for value for money in the heart of the cradle of civilization you will not beat Venice Hazel. Mille Grazie for a holiday for a...

It was a great place to stay for a few days! Location was great, not far from the grand canal! One bathroom looks over a canal which is beautiful! Breakfast was okay nothing special but there is a cafe next door that has great croissants and espresso!

My husband and I stayed here for 4 nights and although we were on a budget this hostel did not provide enough for the price. You have to pay for sheets, which I understand isn't uncommon but would have been nice to know before hand. The "breakfast" is just pre-packaged croissants, tea and coffee and the same thing every day....

I didn't has good expectations of this hostel because of other reviews; however, this hostel impressed me. It has a great relation price - value. It is located in the heart of Venice. Therefore, you can have the full Venice experience. The canals, little bridges, and little streets are around the hostel. The Piazza San Marco is about 4 blocks...

Very nice treatment by the manager. Hotel is located at the main tourist attraction. Nice and quite place to stay. Required little bit research to reach at the hotel since it is located inside the streets. However, it was worth staying here. Highly recommended.

The staff at the hostel was very nice and helpful. They gave us a free map and excellent instructions how to get around Venice and what to see. The bed was comfortable. The shared kitchen was well equipped. The room was extremely cold the first night - the small heater just couldn't warm it up fast enough. The eiderdown seemed...

I was there only for one night to experience the Venetian carnival, and it was a really good experience. The location is great, right next to San Marco square and the place is very clean, and simple. The staff is great, they hand you a map when you arrive and tell you about the main things to do around. And...

The place is pretty simple but very clean. Location is good close from everything but the address is very difficult to find the first time despite all directions. It is not definitively a cool place to stay at, it is actually quite boring but you go there just to sleep so it's OK.

This is a hostel, not a hotel. That's not a bad thing, in my opinion. Bathrooms(which were quite nice!) and kitchen are shared. Its a full kitchen with an oven, which was nice when we brought home some pizza that needed to be reheated. It is in a lovely old building in a good location and the staff is very...

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
