I stayed here with my mum for two nights, it was a treat for my 30th! Set in a lovely quite location along the canal this B&B is beautiful decorated beautifully and has very helpful and friendly members of staff available 24/7. Unfortunately when catching the bus from Treviso Airport to Venice another passenger mistook their bag for my mums...

This bed and breakfast is quiet and a homely experience, since it is located within a very peaceful courtyard behind the Fenice Theatre. We could find it easily following the directions we had been given by the owner, who offered also to guide us over the phone if we wished to. Do not withdraw in front of the anonymous and...

We loved the location as it was very peaceful but close to St Marks Square, Rialto and Fenice Theatre. The view from the room 1 was fabulous, it was great watching the gondolas going past and listening to the music, very romantic. It is a small family run place with a simple but adequate breakfast and we had no need...

We stayed at the Ca Maria Callas for 3 nights last week and had a lovely stay. We arrived very late at night and they made provisions for us to access the building for when we arrived. They sent perfect instructions from the water taxi stop so we arrived safe and sound without getting lost - an easy thing to...

The room was mistakenly double booked for dates that I was not intend to travel. The owner exploited the mistake and charged full price for 3 days. Despite explaining the situation, and clearly realised that I was in distressed, the owner sent a borderline offensive email informing that I would be penalised and refused any alternative arrangement. The hotel offered...

It was our first trip to Venice for two days as a young couple. The host emailed us essential infomation, detailed maps and information about reaching the hotel easily from the airport so this was quite helpful. We made a phone call to the host - Chiara before leaving for Venice and she was very receptive. When we arrived we...

My family of four loved our stay at Ca Maria Callas. It is a perfect location with a five minute walk into St Mark's. Chaira was an outstanding host and did everything she could to assist. We enjoyed the breakfast and found the address very easily with the excellent instructions that were supplied. We enjoyed being in a small facility,...

We used 2 of the rooms for our family (did not realize at booking how very small this was!). Pros: close to the center of town but quiet and away from the tourist traffic. Rooms were clean and bathrooms recently remodeled. Breakfast was very good. Cons: No elevator - we had to haul luggage up one flight of stairs. This...

First off we did have a big problem fining the place and this is mostly down to the fact that we were disorientated by the small winding lanes but it still isn't easily located and definitely not signed at all out the front at the time of our visit. We were met by a member of staff who was very...

The 'hotel' is more like a B&B as it only has 3 rooms, but that is one of the nice features, very cozy and charming. Finding the entrance is a bit of challenge (as is finding anything in Venice), but it is conveniently located near the # 1 ACTV line. A short walk took us to the main locations of...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
