The staff was very welcoming, although the housekeeping and kitchen staff only spoke Italian. The free breakfast was a nice touch, although it consisted of only a few bread products and a drink. The rooms were very nice and spacious. The hotel was in a great location since it was near the train station, very easy to find, located near...

Hotel options: Basically, you have two options in Venice. Staying in Venice or nearby, Mestre. Mestre is cheaper, newer hotels and easier to navigate (no steps, bridges). Yet, Mestre to Venice requires taking the train. Why hassle with trains/train tickets? We spent the night before at Hotel ill Moro di Venezia, Venice, Italy. The hotel room was the size of...

The room and bathroom were very clean but the shower cubicle very small. The continental breakfast was just breads jams and coffee but enough to start the day. It is very near the railway station but if you arrive a piazzale roma I would recommend a porter for your bags as that new bridge over the canale grande is a...

I stopped here with my wife in May at the end of our holiday travelling Italy and Slovenia. The hotel website is very slick and professional BUT PLEASE DO NOT BE FOOLED! After arriving we soon noticed the room DID NOT have air conditioning as clearly stated on their website. We specifically picked this hotel due to this factor. Temperatures...

If you arrive by train, take the left and pay attention, because there is only a sign at the hotel's window, which was difficult to see. The hotel is simple, with a nice breakfast. The staff was very helpfull and the room was small but the bathroom was very good. The location is the best feature, near the main canal....

We stayed here one night prior to our cruise. The room was clean and the staff was very helpful. The continental breakfast was good but limited. Value for Venice was good. E took a TAXI from the airport to P Roma. Thirty Euros. If you have many bags you may want to hire a porter to get you from Plaza...

Well placed in Venice very close to the railway only 5 min walk and right on a lovely Street on shops and cafes. Nothing is very fast away in Venice... An hours walk at most. So this location was perfect. The hotel itself is not elaborate but modern and clean. WiFi is good. Breakfast is nice and made to order....

Good location, close to main railway station. But... Our room (I think it was number 10), last floor was VERY tiny, there was no desk, only bed and two bedside tables. Walls were dirty, bathroom is old with sings of mold. The air conditioning is controlled from reception, so in the room temperature was 24 degrees all the time. Breakfast...

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
