My wife and I stayed at the Dona Palace November 2-5, 2009. Based upon past reviews from Trip Advisor, we requested a Junior Suite Canal View Room. The hotel is located two blocks from Piazza San Marco and we were able to walk from the airport water bus (called the Alilaguna) stop to the hotel (though the entrance to the...

Staff friendly and helpful, breakfast was ok, would suggest you eat all you can as eating out can be very expensive. We stayed in room 40 which is a nice room, the only problem being it is dark so you need the lights on during the daytime. If you are going to Venice during the months of Nov/Dec be prepared...

Modest sized hotel with an attractive courtyard and private water dock three bridges up from the Bridge of Sighs which we could see (under its tarpaulin) from our room. We had a junior suite with antique furniture and mirrors and (closed) fireplace. Beautiful large room full of character with high celings and views onto the canal. A subdivided area contained...

This was one our favorite hotels in Europe. Our room (number 26) had the best views of the canal and the outdoor patio. My husband and I would leave the windows open at night and hear the gondolas go by. Great location, the hotel is a few steps away from St Marks Square. Their outdoor patio is so pretty at...

We stayed at this hotel for only 1 night before leaving for Florence, but it was an unforgettable stay. The hotel is tricky to find, in a maze of narrow pedestrian walkways near Piazza San Marco--we had to ask for directions twice. Our room was spacious, with comfortable beds, and an extra large bathroom. Our room overlooked a canal with...

This was the second time at the hotel. Love the local right by St Marks. The reception area looked like a transit camp with bags everywhere, the desk clerk was not very welcoming. The suite (#12) was rather dark and the sitting room very small (we had a std room last time which was much brighter). The maid left cleaning...

Chose this hotel due to proximity to St. Marks (VERY close!) and that it offered handicapped access rooms (traveling with companion in a non-motorized wheelchair who can stand & take a few steps with support). Did we LUCK OUT! First, do yourself a favor and take a Water Taxi from the airport--it's the way to go! Requires a moderate walk...

I booked the Dona Palace Hotel for a 3 night stay for my wife's 40th Birthday through the Airmiles website. I then contacted the hotel direct to arrange an upgrade to a suite (Room 12) at a reduced rate and to arrange for their 'Special Guest' Package (welcome drink, gift, biscuits and private taxi back to the airport). Prior to...

We stayed at the Dona Palace for three days before an Adriatic Cruise. Only a few blocks from the P.San Marco, it was still out of the bustle, but an easy walk to the major sites. Staff was very helpful and spoke excellent English. We had a double on the front of the 4th floor. It was larger than I...

A very good hotel. Recommendable. Location was excellent, just a 2 minute walk to Piazza San Marco. We had a Junior Suite (Room 45) for 9 nights. The room was very spacious with LCD and 2 large windows overlooking the canal and hotel garden. The bed was huge and comfortable with crispy white bed linen every day. The bathroom was...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.

A classy, elegant, luxury boutique hotel, the Donà Palace is a four star property overlooking the Rio at the Doge's Palace with its famous Bridge of Sighs, just a few steps from Europe's largest drawing room, Saint Mark's Square. The Hotel Donà Palace's exclusive setting in the historic heart of Venice is favoured for its priviledged position.
