The room was quiet, very clean and nice. The bathroom was small but clean. A/C worked properly, something important if you are visiting Venice in Summer. The breakfast room was large, and beautifully decorated. Breakfast itself was all right, with rolls, cheese, ham, pastries etc. We enjoyed our stay at Belle Epoque and would definitly recomend the hotel. We booked...

Location of the hotel is excellent, 7mins from bus loop station. Service in the hotel is average, the man was friendly but the lady was not. Walking distance to major sites, island is small so doable walking or boat taxis (which is right outside the hotel). Great pizza place just 3 doors down. Lobby is very clean and breakfast is...

Service in the hotel is very good, everebody is friendly and helpful. Location is perfect: you can easely reach the place of your destination (even by walk, as Venice is not a big city in fact). Rooms are commodious, clean and include all the necessary furniture and things. Breakfast is included into a room price and consists of a quite...

We stayed at Belle Epoque as part of a tour - wild art deco type furnishings - very ornate and rich - Room was smallish as was bath - small shower stall but a bidet and stool - and heated towel racks. - no window - A/C did not work most of the time - one door opened to small...

I chose this particular hotel because the blurb said it was 5 minutes walk from St Lucia Railway Station which it was. And what a pleasure that it was so easy to find. The hotel's frontage is deceiving and from the outside it looks quite small but inside it is a different story. We were greeted by a friendly receptionist...

We stayed here for one night because it is next to the train station. The room and breakfast were average, but a good value. If you have an early morning train, I would recommend this hotel.

You can't beat the location--just a very short walk from the train station and vaporetto stops to all points in the city. That's a major plus for weary travelers not sure how to navigate Venice's transit system when they first arrive. The hotel is on a busy main drag, but the double-paned windows kept our room very quiet at night,...

Just a few meters from the train statin in Venice. The hotel was an easy walk for our family. The rooms were very clean and both bathrooms were new. Each room had a balcony, but it did not overlook the canel. The Hotel has a glass elevator that the kids loved. The hotel had a great breakfast. Italy is not...

Friends recommended this hotel, we didn't book but walked the 5 minutes to the hotel from the Santa Lucia Train Station on the island of Venice. They had vacancies for €100 a night. The room was ornately beautiful, everything was red and gold – the wallpaper, carpets, curtains, bedspread, sofa. There was a lovely, compact bathroom along a short hallway....

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
