There was no lift and our rooms was on the top floor The hotel itself is old, but vintage, fascinating. It was a nice place to stay as long as you are not fussy and high demand with amenities. Very excellent, easy accessibility to the Plaza Maria Formosa, restaurant and shop.

We had actually booked to stay at the main property - Ca'Malipiero, which is right around the corner from Ca'Formosa. That property was pretty disgusting to be honest, so when we were told we would be staying in the sister property, despite our initial annoyance, we were relieved when we were taken to Ca'Formosa. To keep it brief, I'll list...

My wife and I just returned from a trip to Italy and our first stop was in Venice. Our trip included a visit to the major cities in Italy and two of those nights would be in Venice. We booked this hotel based on it's proximity to local water transportation and to the San Marco Piazza which undoubtedly is the...

My husband and I stayed here last month and had a nice time. It can get slightly tricky to find the place but if you have a map in your phone then you should be good to go. Do ask a couple of shopkeepers on your way to confirm the location. We reached the hotel in the evening and found...

After being so many times in Venice I think to have some experience regarding accomodations. I was a little bit scary by reading some negative reviews about this place and I decided to give a try. First of all when you choose to stay in a "locanda" ( I mean in a real locanda, not in a hotel called locanda...

The room was an excellent size with air conditioning and an excellent bed, and it had a large private washroom. Other than that it would be tough to call it a hotel. It was four stories up small winding staircases, there was no one at the reception desk and the cleaning staff actually checked us in, the only wireless internet...

Only reason we stayed in Ca Formosa was budget limitation - we were booking quite late for the Carnival weekend, and didn't really have much choice... So, we didn't get a real value for money - location 4 of 5 just because of relative proximity to Main Sq., breakfast very basic, no private shower, almost no heating (which for Feb...

I reread some of the other reviews and understand why some people might not have given good reviews. But get a life here, we are talking about Venice...expensive, beautiful, easy to get lost in all those little streets yes. Was the hotel hard to find? Yes. Were there lots of steps? Yes (find a hotel in Venice that does NOT...

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
