Staying in Eleonora's beautiful house greatly added to our first stay in Venice. We stayed in the amber room so were treated to views of the canals from our balcony and sounds of the singers as the gondoliers skillfully negotiated the waterways. The room was large, very clean and well equipped. We did not make use of the mosquito plug-in...

We just finished our 10 day trip in Italy and by far this was the best B&B we stayed at. Eleonora was fantastic. She warned us of a public transportation strike before we headed out for the day, let us know about the historic gondola race which shuts down the vaparetto, and had a great selection of food for breakfast....

The many virtues of Al Teatro B & B have been recognized and described by Trip Advisor correspondents (i.e. comfort, cleanliness, location, value, etc.) as well as the only disadvantage (the steep staircase) in different expressive ways. What made our stay memorable and enjoyable was Eleonora herself, the perfect hostess. Her acceptance was warm and welcoming, and she assisted us...

TripAdvisor reviews sealed our decision to book this small B&B (only 3 rooms) on our second visit to Venice and we were so glad we made the right decision and experienced Eleanora's family home and hospitality. We exchanged several emails before we travelled. Arriving in Venice from Barbados where we live, we took a coach from the airport to the...

My husband and I had never stayed in a B&B in an Italian city, so even though I had some trepidation, I was swayed by the reviews on TripAdvisor, as well as the thought of having a room with a balcony overlooking a canal in Venice. And I'm happy to report that it was a great experience at a fraction...

Al Teatro B&B was outstanding. Eleonora is a wonderful host and makes the most wonderful breakfasts. She is very generous with her wealth of local knowledge. The rooms are spacious, beautifully appointed and very clean. The house is in a very quiet area but close to shops, restaurants, places of interest and a vaparetto station.

Al Teatro is a lovely b&b in Venice. It's the perfect location..close to San Marco and to the vaparetto stop, but in a quiet neighborhood. We LOVED that right below our windows are the passing gondolas and we could hear the gondoliers singing and the singers in the famous opera house (only when we opened our windows). It was really...

i stayed here with my girlfriend for four nights. great location, maybe a five minute walk to the piazza san marco and the doge's palace. the best thing about staying at Al Teatro is the owner, Eleonora. she and her family live in this bed & breakfast. having a local to talk to (in english!) over breakfast every morning was...

I have to say my wife and I were somewhat skeptical as we trudged up three flights of crumbling stone stairs to the entrance of Eleonora’s B&B and home (by law, the owner must live onsite). But what a pleasant surprise when she showed us to our room! We had chosen the Amber Room and couldn’t have been more pleased....

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
