We stayed in a very nice 2nd floor room facing Campo Santa Maria Formosa and the church. Modern bathroom with a rainshower showerhead, lots of storage, in-room fridge, and full-sized desk were all great. The hotel offers a complimentary breakfast, and there's a good in-room coffee-maker that uses pods. Comfy beds. But the best thing of all was the location......

Our first stay at Venice and won't be our last... We'll be back for sure to stay here. Our family of four stayed 3 nights in a junior suite, fabulous huge room, great location to St Marks, and all that is on offer in Venice. Located in one of the quieter squares and not so touristy. The staff are an...

Great place, fantastic hotel for family with young kids.. Enjoyed every bit of our stay at the hotel with spacious, high ceiling rooms, great views, friendly and helpful staff. Wifi was fast, All the main attractions and shopping were just within minutes walking distance.

Truly an amazing hotel. Stunning rooms, immaculately clean, excellent service, nothing was too much trouble for the staff - always happy to help. Fantastic location, not too far to walk to St Marks square and Rialto bridge but also not too close. After a day walking round all the busy streets this hotel is set in a beautiful and much...

My family recently stayed at Hotel Palazzo Vitturi as we traveled through Italy during the World Baton Competition, and this establishment was by far the best we had ever experienced. The staff was more than friendly and accomodating to our needs. The hotels location was close enough to the major attractions of Venice yet not too close to the busy...

We enjoyed our stay in march 2015 in this very nice hotel. Location very good, near Rialto and San Marco. Our room had a view to the campo, church and the small canal - perfect! Room was very clean, not to small, with original paintings on the ceiling. The bed was big and comfortable. There was a coffeemachine (nespresso) and...

Our family of 5 stayed 3 nights at Hotel Palazzo Viturri. We booked 2 rooms. Both rooms and bathrooms were extremely large by European standards. The rooms were immaculate upon arrival and cleaned everyday to that standard. The hotel itself is located in a square with restaurants and stores close by, but far enough away that you aren't dealing with...

This is my second review for this hotel, and this is not about our stay, (which was perfect, wonderful and outstanding), this is about my initial feedback. The only criticism we had was finding the hotel after a long day driving, and then trying to figure out the vaporetto system and where to go. The hotel just emailed with a...

I booked this hotel with no idea about where best to be in Venice and the location is ideal. The hotel is beautiful inside and out. On a beautiful square that's not too touristy (for Venice) and the rooms have lovely high ceilings and are beautiful. The only thing that lets it down is the breakfast as other reviewers have...

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
