We arrived in Venice in the evening and was dropped off from the airport near the train station. It was one of the best decisions to stay there from a budget and logistics point of view. Us 3 girls rolled our carryon luggage 5 minutes to the hotel (a few more minutes to find it as we walked past the... More

This family run hotel is very close to the railway station and in Venice it pays not to have to transport luggage a long way. The hotel is situated off a busy street, but down the narrow laneway there is little if any noise. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Rooms are dated, but clean. Breakfast is basic, but adequate...cereals,... More

Very central, only 5 minutes walking from the train station, very helpful and polite staff, clean and large room and bathroom, a delicious breakfast, with a step from the hotel you find yourself in the cheerful streets of Venezia. The hotel is maybe old , but dont forget, all hotels in the central Venezia are old.

This hotel was in a great location just left out of the train terminal at Santa Lucia. Reception staff friendly and helpful. Rooms are small but clean. While expensive for a 2 star hotel it is in a fab location.

We stayed in a family room on the first floor for one night. Arriving by train well after 9p.m we didn’t want to have to go far with our luggage and in this respect Hotel Caprera was perfect. The man (owner?) at the front desk was charming and efficient. Our room was spotlessly clean and equipped with fans to keep... More

Hotel Caprera is located close the the train and bus stations, very close to the main tourist walk through of Venice. By Venice prices it's very fair value but the hotel is a little tired in terms of decor and facilities. The staff are friendly and give good advice on what to do on your stay. Breakfast is fresh and... More

The staff here where very nice! So helpful and made us feel really welcomed. It is great for a two star hotel. The rooms are comfortable and always clean. It is quite pricey however, but would defiantly recommend.

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
