We have stayed in Hotel Alex just for one night, and since we are young we didn't expect so much comfort. For that type of accomodation, the price is fair. The hotel has everything one person could need + BREAKFAST is a very important reason why we enjoyed the stay. The lady who runs it is a fine person.

This hotel is in the middle of very typical homes in venice, everything is beautiful and you fell just like in a romantic movie. The room was very old, but clean and classical. It is almost like a hostel, in terms of bathroom. The breakfast is very good. The owners are really kind and very helpful. It seems to have...

The hotel was just in the center of Venice so it was a good value for money. The building is old but that should satisfy those who spend most of the time exploring Venice and not staying in the hotel room. The service was excellent.

This is a hard review to write. This little hotel is right in the middle of Venice, in a great location, and one of the cheapest places to stay. The owners are a delight, helpful and kind. Breakfast is good, with pastries, yogurt, and fruit. Bathrooms and bed linens are clean. The downside; the walls in our room had never...

A lot of the reviews I read seemed to confuse "dirty" with "old". The building is old, the decor is old, but it was actually pretty clean. Our room was tiny, especially the bed, but it did the job. We got upgraded for free to a top floor room with balcony, which was great for added space. The location is...

Compared to three star hotels, this place is wonderful and a great value for money in Venice where everything is more expensive. The lady who manages the place is extremely helpful and a pleasure to get to know. The room was clean and they accommodates our need for two beds without question. We will definitely stay here again.

The only advange is the location, close to Rialto and nice places Hotel is not well maintained, owner seems to forget than paying that amount of money for such bad quality is not in the respect of tourist. No A/C, basic breakfast, very noisy, equipments are falling appart (like the fan). OK for one night but no more. Tourist trap...

Lovely hotel. Great hospitality and ina great part of town. Only thing I can complain about was that after a day of walking in 97 degrees, you get back to your room and realize it's just as hot inside.

Ok so, I can accept a range of standards in a hotel having travelled in Asia and other less developed countries. Hotel Alex rates itself as a one star however in line with Venician hotels is priced as a three star. The hotel owner runs the hotel. She is delightful and very welcoming- nothing but praise for her hospitality. The...

Staying in San Polo

Neighbourhood Profile
San Polo
The Rialto Bridge is the most famous sight along the Grand Canal in San Polo, smallest of Venice's six sestieri (districts) and by far the busiest neighbourhood. Morning Venetians arrive to peruse the markets for fish, fruit and vegetables, while shops display goods from cheese to wine to desserts. San Silvestro and Rialto Market vaporetto (water taxi) stops add to the steady stream of foot traffic. San Polo is defined by churches including Basilica dei Frari, one of the most important churches sought by art lovers.
