Stayed here for 2 nights in mid October, the location is good, less than 7 mins walk to the vaporetto stop. So it was easy to get to many places. The walk from the vaporetto stop to the B&B was easy with our big luggage. You will need to walk up a flight of stairs as the B&B is on...

A small and friendly hotel on the main Island in Venice. Easy to get to from Vaporetto stop Ospedale and from all the main attractions (if you don't get lost, as you always do in Venice :-) ). The hotel is located in a narrow lane close to a small campo (square) in the Castello district. No canal view but...

This was a return visit to Alloggi Barbaria. Firstly the location is perfect. Two minute walk from Ospidali Water Bus stop and twelve minutes from St Mark's Square. The room was clean and had all we needed, including a fridge stocked with very cheap drink. Breakfast was nice and filling. Staff were extremely pleasant and helpful and even gave us...

This is billed as a hotel but it is more like a bed and breakfast without the owners being there…..that's not meant to sound like a bad thing! It is conveniently located about a 2 min walk from the Ospedale (hospital) water taxi stop, and it's not not more than a 20 min (if you don't get lost, but you...

This is a great place to stay if you want to escape the busy neighborhoods in Venice.15 min walk to St.Mark's square and Rialto bridge. Rooms are large and clean, breakfast is simple and good. Just 5 minute walk to Ospedale vaporetto water taxi stop.

We stayed at this hotel in September and booked it based on Rick Steve’s book and other reviews. It is in a good location that is very easy to get to via the water buses. it is a quiet but safe neighborhood with lots of good restaurants close by. It is also within walking distance to most of the major...

This is my second stay at Alloggi Barbaria. The owner is a lovely fellow who is remarkably helpful. The beds are comfortable and the rooms are quite clean. This is a great place to stay if you want to avoid the hectic scene closer to San Marco and the Rialto...and yet it is not a long walk to get to...

I'm always focused on getting good value on my rooms as a budget-minded traveler. Many of the hotels were quite pricey in Venice, so we were happy to have found this through Trip Advisor. Alloggi Barbaria provided a great one-night stay that is far away from the tourist center to be quiet, but perfectly walkable to some of the most...

After reading reviews of hotels in Venice I opted to book in this hotel because of its bigger room than the rest of comparable hotels. We were not disappointed. Also very clean. It is a little far from the main sites but it is still a walking distance as long as you don't get lost otherwise everywhere can be reached...

The owner was very nice and very helpful. He gave us excellent directions from the airport that made it so easy to find the place. Breakfast was very small with mostly bread and coffee. Supermarket was at the end of the alley. It's off the beaten path but that also means quiet nights. This is in a residential neighborhood. This...

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
