we stayed for 5 night in this wonderfully placed small hotel that is extremely close to the cetntre of venice. we arrived relatively late, after 23:00 and made 1 phone call upon which a night concierge came around the corner and checked us in. The hotel is just 3 minutes walking distance from the vaporetto stop San Sacarias / San...

I stayed here for 2 nights. The Hotel is very hard to find as it is in a back alley but one found it is easy to orientate yourself to the main walkways. This is a very small hotel but has a lot of charm. The room faced the alley but it did not matter - it was exactly as...

Great little hotel with only 5 guest rooms and a small reception-come-breakfast area. No complaints as regards cleanliness and location. However, although we had emailed the hotel to give them our time of arrival (as it is not manned all the time) and we got a reply so we know they received the email - there was no one to...

We booked this B&B on the recommendation of my friend who had stayed previously. It is 2-3 minutes from St Marks and also the nearest vaporetto stop. There is also an excellent restaurant nearby, Al Vecio Canton. The hotel is located down a small street and when you approach you wonder where on earth you have chosen to stay. Once...

We enjoyed our stay at this b&b, the room was big and cleaned every day with clean towels. The breakfast was delivered to our door every morning, and was always nice with something different on there every day. Its in very close proximity to the water bus stop and st marks square. We only paid 50EUD per night in January...

I accepted an offer of accommodation for 3 nights in another building near San Marco. The building was in a state of disrepair - paint and plaster falling of walls onto steps - front door lock not working properly - no hot water in shower. There does not appear to be anyone else living in this building - not surprising...

We really enjoyed staying at this B&B. The room was very comfortable and located very close to the main touristy areas of Venice, only a few mins walk from St Marks Square and the water bus stop. The host Sylvia was very pleasant and friendly. Each day she prepared a huge breakfast which had loads of variety. We arrived late...

Clean, Friendly staff rooms were ideal for 2 people sharing. Close to main tourist hub 2 min walk from the Water Taxi. European breakfast, Boiled eggs, Cereal, bread, fruit and juice, tea & coffee included in the price. Well within a reasonable budget. 90EUD per night in Mid-August Would be nice if there was better AC but wasn't uncomfortable by...

This is a 3 star property on a side street about a five minute walk from the Piazza San Marco. We were there in June and it was hotter than blue blazes outside. Issues with directions: Other posters are right- this place is on a very tiny street. Our google map wasn't great. You need to be careful how you...

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
