It was both our second time in Venice & staying at '3749 Ponte Chiodo'.  In Sept 2009 we stayed at '3749 Ponte Chiodo' & loved it so much we decide to come back with family & friends to get married at Ponte Chiodo on the bridge! The host Mattia's passion & knowledge of Venice is unsurpassed. The rooms facing the cannel...

I stayed here for 5 nights but would have liked to have stayed for a year. Such a beautiful place!! I spent 3 months travelling through europe, and my time in Ponte Chiodo was by far the highlight for me. I had a garden view room on the first floor, and have absolutely no complaints. If you want 5 star...

We enjoyed 10 days staying in Ponte Chiodo and had a wonderful time. We were able to explore the quieter places off the beaten track. Ponte Chiodo is an oasis tucked away off the main street. We had a delightful room on the first floor overlooking the canal with a private bathroom( not ensuite which was not a problem but...

We found this quaint B&B in the internet and read reviews from TripAdvisor, not to be disappointed. Great location, walking distance to everything. Be prepared to get lost, part of the adventure! Small B&B, excellent well keep gardens. We had a small room overlooking the canals. Book early and make sure you ask for a canal view room. Spectacular! The...

We stayed at the Ponte Chiodo on the recommendation of an old Guardian article about Venice. It's a family run B&B down a small side street in the Cannaregio district of Venice - about 12 minutes walk from the Ca D'Oro waterbus stop. The room and bed was clean, comfortable and tastefully (but minimally) decorated. We tried to get a...

While the room was small, this pensione was perfectly located in a quiet neighborhood within an easy distance of the must-see sites yet far from the madding tourist crowds. Great restaurants nearby, especially loved Antica Adelaide just down the street. Our host was extremely helpful, loved the cappucino in the morning. Would definitely stay here again.

We stayed at Ponte Chiodo for three nights. Mattia, the owner, greeted us and was terrific throught our stay. When he heard we were planning to see the Venice Biennale, he gave us a guide, which he asked us to return as he'd bought a number for guests. When we told him that I hadn't been pleased with restaurants in...

Our family of six stayed at Ponte Chiodo in Venice in June 2011. Many of the rooms overlook one of Venice's waterways, and the hotel is within walking distance from many of Venice's famous sites while not being too much in the noisy thick of things. The owner, Mattia, was an absolutely amazing host! He helped us plan our days...

We ended our honeymoon in Venice and had a wonderful time staying at Ponte Chiodo. Mattia really made the visit special with his personal recommendations on things to see and places to eat. He really goes above and beyond with his guests. All of his recommendations were incredible and we loved eating breakfast in the lovely garden. We'll stay there...

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
As our guests write: "A home away from home. Quiet, clean, convenient and very welcoming. Excellent location off the beaten track but still close to everything, located in not touristic and alive Cannaregio's district. If you are looking for lavish 4/5 stars Hotel with huge rooms furnished with fake baroque golden furniture please move on. If you visualize small bridges crossing the little canal outside your window, vine covered walls surrounding a patio and small garden and cappuccino every morning, then this is the place for you! The rooms are cozy and comfortable, their furniture original antique and well refurbished... Remember this is an old, Venetian home. No gyms. No pools. But a nice patio to enjoy breakfast or an evening glass of wine and cheese. You may also have the opportunity to meet some nice people from almost anywhere. The Venetian owner suggests local small restaurants and hidden itineraries through the wonderful unknown Venice". ... more   less
