My family (two forty-something adults, a 9-year-old boy, and his 79-year-old Grandmother) stayed in a two-bedroom, two-bath apartment at Corte Grimani this week and had a lovely stay. The room was very large, very comfortable, and very scenic. Almost all our windows had canal views,...More
No wonder this place has won an award from Tripadvisor! Very central location, very friendly and helpful staff. It was a pleasure to stay here for a week and would surely come back. The rooms are well furnished, spacious and clean. I did not find...More
We really enjoyed staying here. Great location just 5 mins from St Mark's and just round the corner from Bacino Orseolo Gondole, which added to our Venetian experience. We loved watching the gondolas pass below our balcony and hearing the gondaliers sing as they glided...More

The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and
Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.

The Vaporetto (water bus) run from just outside the train station to both the Railto and San Marco, costs €7.50/person each way and runs every 15 minutes or so. From the station, you can catch either the white (No.1) or Red (No.2) lines. There is a ticket booth near the pier and the vendors all speak perfect English.
The Rialto stop is slightly closer, and less busy - it's an easy, mostly flat 100-150 yard walk from there to the hotel following the directions from the hotel website.
The Vaporetto is easy and a great Venician experience!

"We had a mid-level floor, so had noise from above. I expect the top floor would be the quietest in that case."
