Lovely place to stay - but harassed continuously to pay cash. Then - after I paid by cc - I received an email from booking agency to advise the establishment said I failed to show, hence they would charge me a €144 fee ! As I said, lovely place, but clearly dodgy business practices happening here.

Nice apartment in a quiet area of Venice, away of noise and crowds. Just in front of a vaporetto station, so you can be at San Marcos in 10 minutes. Ivan is an excellent host and the place is fully equipped and clean. Kitchen with coffee, bread, orange juice... Sure we'll come back.

This recently renovated apartment is perfect for couples. Decorated in a charming Venetian style, it is located in a quiet family area close to the Giardini. There are nearby shops for supplies and restaurants offering excellent family style Italian food. Ivan is an excellent host, communication is very clear and nothing is too much trouble. We were delayed on arrival...

I stayed 1 week in this pleasant B+B and really enjoyed it to the fullest. A large apartment in a tourist-free part of Venice. The kitchen was by far the best equipped I have ever experienced in Italy. There was absolutely everything one needs, from good wine glasses, good sharp knives, tea kettle and a well stocked larder. At my...

I have finally found the best place to stay in Venice, quiet and Beautiful Santa Elena. S. Elena is the at the east end of Venice and is accessible 24 hours per day by ferry but also a pleasant and lovely 15 minute walk to San Marco. It's bounded on one side by a park with large trees and right...

Fantastic apartment! Lovely location. Realistically a 20-25 minute walk to town - all level walking though. Ivan was a pleasure to deal with. Contacted us by text to ensure all was OK etc. Met us from the ferry. Thanks and would be happy to stay again!

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
