We learned about Almaviva on Wotif.com after planning our trip to Venice on short notice. After reading some favourable reviews on this site, we decided to book. We are very pleased that we did. We were contacted by the owner a couple of days before we were due to arrive, and he offered to help us with arrangements from the...

We had booked what we thought was a B&B, but our rooms turned out to be an apartment consisting of two rooms, two bathrooms and a sitting room - ideal for us as a family of five. It was in a beautiful old Venetian building, and looked as if it had been very recently restored inside. In fact some details...

My husband and I stayed with our 2 teen-age kids for 3 nights at the Almaviva Residence this past July. When I enquired about the Almaviva House earlier in the year, the owner very kindly and immediately called, hoping to convince me to book the Almaviva Residence instead. I went against my better judgment (as there was, and still is,...

We chose this hotel as we particularly wanted to be close to the center or Venice. It was a couple of minutes walk away from San Marco Square. A beautiful and amazing place to stay which is so well suited to the extraordinary magnificence of Venice. We enjoyed our stay at Almaviva Residence very much. Our very big top floor...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
