Quiet hotel off the beaten path. Pay the extra and get a room over looking the small canal, you won't regret it as there is lots of gondola activity during the day and you have a great view of watching the men singing beautiful Italian...More
We had a great 4 nights at Hotel Becher. The location is fantastic, close to Saint Mark's but still walking distance to ferry stop on other side of Venice to Murano. We had a canal view room and it was lovely and light and made...More

The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and
Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.

We took a water taxi from the airport to the hotel organised by the hotel. It was very easy, not to mention a lovely way to first experience Venice, as the taxis leave from the airport (signs in airport) and you are delivered right to the landing at the hotel. I did take the water bus back from the airport having dropped my family there as I had a few more day's work to do. The waterbus takes it time!
