I originally booked another hotel but was upgraded to this one instead due to a problem with the door. The bellman arrived and took our luggage with us to this hotel instead. When we first arrived the first thing we noticed was the amazing view from the window. We had room 307 which was on the highest floor of their...

My room had a few dents in the floor that weren't repaired, bad service staff who didn't know anything to do with train schedules, free internet and printing, GREAT breakfeast! Good location 3minutes walk to both san marco and Rialto!

Hotel was in an excellent location, directly down from the water taxi and basically straight from St. Marks square. It was bright, clean and although the elevator is not large, it was perfectly adequate. Good breakfast included. Delicious pizza right across the narrow street from the entrance. Lots of reasonably priced shops on the route to St. Marks Square. Clean,...

For a 4-star hotel, there were a few drawbacks: the room was terribly small, the lobby seemed uninviting and the staff at the reception was not too helpful. However, the breakfast was very good and the service in the breakfast room very friendly. There was a bar in the lobby, but no service. Once we asked for a cup of...

I must be one of the few people who actually knew I was staying at The LaScala annex of the Bella Venezia Hotel. Either hotel is in a great location, located about 2 blocks away from the Rialto Bridge Vaporetto stop and a 5 minute walk from the Plaza San Marco. The rooms are small to Americans but about normal for...

I booked this room with booking.com. When I booked the room I saw it mentioned an annex. I didnt think this meant a completely different hotel. When we arrived we were taken to Palazzo la Scala. All the photos on the website are for the main building Hotel Bella Venezia. While we were there, we heard of 3 other groups...

The hotel is good located (5 minutes from Rialto Bridge and 10 minutes from San Marco Place. We booked on line 2 rooms, one for the parents and one for our daughter. It was only after the confirmation that we were informed that the room of our daughter was located in an annex building (150 metres from the main building)....

Stayed here once before in 2007 just after the hotel had been refurbished so knew what to expect. 17th century outside but 21st century inside. Located about half way between St.Marks Square and the Rialto Bridge so ideal for exploring Venice. Nice rooms with all modern facilities and reasonably priced for Venice, especially if you book and pay in advance....

booked the room through Trivago.com as Hotel Belle Venezia. On receiving my booking confirmation it stated I had booked Hotel La Scarla. I didnt think anything of it at first as it appeared on my credit card bill as I thought it was just a different trading name. On arriving at the Hotel and checking, in the porter then to...

This Hotel was beautiful great location. The staff were friendly and very helpful. I must say that Matteo who was on during the day was very good. He was friendly and became our friend during our stay. Went out of his way to help and give advice of things to do, places to eat and this was very welcoming. I...

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
